If you haven't already, but want to, here is a petition the AFC Dons fans are pushing to get some action over this ridiculously over the top punishment of 18 point deduction, for a clerical error.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/wimbledon/

Sign it if you can and care, if not, post abusive responses to this thread below.

Thank you.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
They say it was a clerical error, I suppose it's the SAME clerical error that allows them to tap up other sides players *alledgedly*

I hope they get relegated.

I've sympathies for the club AFC dons (not about this, but in general), but a petition to the PM sounds a bit silly in this case. Can't they just appeal to the FA or whoever gave the fine, or take legal action. I can't believe Tony will give two hoots about this (unless he's an AFC fan).

IMO, they deserved some sort of points deduction, but 18 points is ridiculous.

Anyway internet petitions get on my nerves as they require bugger all effort. Do it the proper way if you feel so strongly - organise a proper petition collated by canvassers on foot.

Is it in line with the rules where they lose all the points from the games the players played in? If so then it is right they lose the points.

Why? The 18 point deduction is fair enough IMO, its there own fault for not making sure he was eligible to play. Hope West Ham get the same sort of treatment.

The precedents have been set on this one, so I think they will just have to take the punishment.

Harsh though that punishment is, it will make administators think a little harder about what they are doing and get them to check the rules.

They should think themselves lucky the points aren't also added to the teams they took them off.

So signing a retired player from a sunday league team who last played professionally in the English league, albeit for Cardiff City, the mistake was not even slightly understandable? Darlington retired from Cardiff, and English league team albeit under the auspices of the Welsh FA. He then started playing for a sunday league team before meeting DA who he knew of old and agreeing to play for AFCW, a team playing in that self-same English league pyramid. Someone didn't tick a box because they failed to relaise internation clearance was required to move form a club in the English league to a club in the English league. Hardly the most major of offences really is it?

Did they not think of asking someone? Seriously if I was involved in that side of things for a football club I would want to make sure EVERYTHING was sorted before allowing him to play.

Whether or not it was an admin error they still gained an unfair advantage and got punished in the correct way.

I wonder how many signatures that petition would have if the club in question was, say, Boreham Wood rather than AFC Wimbledon?

I concur with clay.

If they let it slip im sure more "mistakes would be made"

Just because they are smaller than west ham does not mean they should get away with the same sort of thing.

I think what you're failing to realise is that the Ryman League, having enjoyed AFCW gates/money for the past few seasons are now desperately trying to think of ways to keep them in their league.

In the same way I have a bit of sympathy for West Ham. Any club, when signing on a player, has to send of a signing on form to the league for approval. The league then approve his registration, then he can play. This lad had obviously been approved, played for a few weeks and only then do the league pipe up and say he can't play. Why did the league not pick this up at the time? Or are leagues allowed to 'overlook' things, but clubs can't.

I don't think they gained any advantage, if they had ticked the box on the paperwork, or whatever it was, he would have been allowed to play. And the whole thing would never have happened.

The charge seems totally excessive, 18 points FFS, and a whopping fine.

I understand rules is rules, and in general they should be upheld, but they hardly cheated, and it doesn't seem like they tried to cover anything up.
