Glen Campbell knew he was slipping into the fog of Alzheimer's. He wrote and performed one last song that explored the reality of what was happening.

If you have known anyone with this terrible disease, you'll know what he's talking about.

I'm still here, but yet I'm gone
I don't play guitar or sing my songs
They never defined who I am
The man that loves you 'til the end
You're the last person I will love
You're the last face I will recall
And best of all, I'm not gonna to miss you.
Not gonna miss you.

I'm never gonna hold you like I did
Or say I love you to the kids
You're never gonna see it in my eyes
It's not gonna hurt me when you cry
I'm never gonna know what you go through
All the things I say or do
All the hurt and all the pain
One thing selfishly remains
I'm not gonna miss you
I'm not gonna miss you

Very, very sad.

Both as a fan of Glen Campbell and as someone who has experience of a relative having this appalling condition.

Here's another one.

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin' in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees

Pastoral scene of the gallant South
The bulgin' eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Yes,my mother is going that way but still knows us .She is not sure where she is living though.

Make the most of every single moment you get with her while you can and while she is still with you in mind as well as in body.

When we lost my grandmother to this thing, she went so far that she didn't even recognise my Grandad any more despite them having been married for nearly 60 years and knowing each other since they were 4 or 5 (she was in her mid-80s when she passed away). Utterly heartbreaking to go with him to visit her and hear her talking to him as if he were a stranger rather than the love of her life as he actually was.

My Nan went through this. I remember visiting her in her nursing home. She didn't recognise me and screamed at me "being a nasty stranger" to get away from her. It really upset me. At a younger age, my nan would have been horrified if she knew something like this would happen. She doted on me as a boy.

I remember her from the days before, rather than when the fog came down.

I know we all want to live longer lives, but at what price? I think my nan would have rather had a heart attack than live the last 10 years like she did.

Chills me to this day whenever I hear it. Saddening that the despicable racism of the South continues to this day. On my way into Birmingham, Alabama, to visit the Civil Right's Institute I saw a billboard bearing the message: "Anti-racist is a code word for anti white". There's been progress, but not enough.

Even more saddening that it's not confined to the South.
Obviously racism is everywhere to some extent, but the south does seem particularly bad. I was out to dinner with a businessman from the south, and he tried to put a gentle spin on it, but he genuinely believed that we're born completely different. I guess a lot of people think the same really, they just don't say so because they know it's considered bad.

shocking and sad to think what is depicted in this song actually happened, in fact it's sick.
