I hate to state the obvious, but one goal in over 470 minutes of Championship Football is not anywhere near good enough. Something is wrong considering the squad we have now. Gus needs to examine every reason for it now, & I'm sure he is doing that.
The need for another striker is now obvious, perhaps not a player full of flare this time, just a big lump who knows how to find the back of the NETT!!!!!

OVER TO YOU MR BLOOM ?

The nearest thing to a lump we tried was Paynter and look how that turned out.

There have been many posts on the problems of CMS; my take as in ample evidence tonight is that simply he cannot play with his back to goal and that is what was being asked of him tonight. His first touch is too heavy and he cannot head the ball. Barnes is expected to do defensive duties and I think most of NSC doubts his striking abilities. Dobbie has been a mare so far so to speak. To be honest, not quite sure where Gus and TB go. January is some way off, the loan market only reveals lumps like Paynter or lightweights like Vokes so Gus HAS to make CMS, Dobbie and Barnes work somehow. Or does he try Agdestien for an extended run?

In the season that Peter Ward scored 32 goals we went through 450 minutes scoring just two goals and six away games without scoring, including four away defeats.

It came as a shock and I think that was because the better teams shut up shop home and away.

It was thought at the time that all Albion promotion teams (there had not been many) have a bad spell in a season and it was best to get it over before Christmas.

Mullery just went on playing the same way. But there were major characters in the team like Brian Horton.

We might have scored 5 against Barnsley but they were ravaged with injuries.
We haven't scored against more than half the teams in the matches we have played & the manager won't change his system. Unfortunately, I see no other outcome of more of the same - until Poyet has a gun pointed to his head, which could then go one of two ways. It works ie 4-4-2 or the sack.

After all it is a results business.

From poyets comments last night he was quoted as saying its about scoring goals and not about the way we play. Not sure I believe he really thinks that to be honest. If he did he wouldn't be quite so stubborn in persevering with 1 striker every game, leaving game changers on the bench and setting up in a defensive, lets not lose, way.
By the sounds of it we didn't get mauled last night just couldn't get on the score sheet. I don't believe we can keep not scoring to be honest but I do think we need a striker badly, but are there any available to us. Any old lump would do more harm than good. Perhaps a loanee from abroad?
