Yes I think that is what its for....There was a very new keen guard on the 5:32 to Littlehampton last night who would keep telling us in a very loud voice that there was short platforms everywhere

I think it is to assist blind passengers as well as people incapable of working out that they're about to fall into the abyss at Glynde if they alight from the 8th carriage.

utterly pointless, what the feck difference does it make even if the train is gonna split, unless they actually say "the is carriage 9 and is going to Littlehampton"

That's my issue with it.

I blame Ernest. We need a tried and tested programmer for the train Voice Overs. ERNEST OUT.

Major PROTEST at Brighton Station tomorrow morning!!!

Ah, but on the outside of the carriage the scrolling sign does tell you which bit of the train to be in. Very useful on the 1832 from Victoria

Carriages 1-4 for Southampton, carriages 5-8 for Bognor Regis, carriages 9-12 for Brighton.

BTW - Why is it with every train I get that splits, the Brighton section is always at the back so it always leaves last:angry:

I suppose it is useful if your meeting people on route and can tell them what carriage you are in

Any idea why the trains are now telling you what carriage you are in? It seems utterly pointless on trains that aren't going to separate at any point on there journey.

it seems completely strange to me as well, after all if it was so crucial to pump out constant remiders why have they never done it before?

Try looking over her shoulder at what she's doing. I did that to some city-type nobber the other week and he shut his laptop down.

Are laptoppers worse than Godbotherers though?

Only the ostentatious production of a vile "contemporary English" version of the Bible so that its owner can mutter their way through it from Haywards Heath to Victoria can invoke some distinctly non-Christian thoughts!

i am practicing Captain Noah and His Floating Ark by Horowitz at the moment on the train ( I know it now so I can read the music and hear it in my head if you know what I mean. Anyway there was a godbotherer on the train reading her Boble and she looked down at me and said " What a wonderful story...so uplifting...so true..."

I had to smile and make polite conversation...but she was a grade 1 nutter

Nothing can be worse than the mobile phone "shouters"

FOR FECK SAKE, YOU DON'T NEED TO SHOUT, AND NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR YOUR LIFE STORY

I feel a little better now :D

Vankleek Hill, actually....
It's to do with stations with short platforms.

In the days when I used to commute between Crawley and Horsham, I always got on the 8 or 12 carriage trains. The announcer used to say that any commuters alighting at Littlehaven were to use the front 4 carriages of the train due to the platform length. It's amazing how many commuters kept rushing from the other carriages to the front of the train to get off.

If anyone ever did that to me, I will quietly open up an email client, close my eyes and tilt my head away from the screen before hitting this link
