I would love Zamora to come back,great financial coup for the club merchandise wise and a good chance he might if on top form knock in 10 or 12 goals to help the cause,those that think he is some sort of saviour are bonkers though

But by all means come back Bobby finish your career with us and lets all have a little bit of excitement about it.You cant compare a striker at the end of his game to Mullery or Clough though..........unless you are desperate for column inches

As superb as it would be, Vicente will always be the most astonishingly ambitious signing we've made (post-1985 anyway). Zamora coming would be great but in terms of impact, Vicente and CMS were bigger.

Thank you for the concern but not going near BZ this week, the sad passing of Bellotti and the new 3G pitch at Worthing will be the basis of my jottings this week.

I can see comparisons between Smith and Zamora, but as you say the arrivals of Clough and Mullery are huge but possibly not events some of the younger fans are even aware of.

Part of a double winning side granted, but he'd been effectively shown the door at the Lane because of non football related matters. But those old enough on here will testify to the mass hype there was when he came, over 50 years later the hype would be as big or bigger?

I'm confused as to whether this was started to actually get the views of younger fans regarding Mr Z or not?

If it was, I'm not sure how any of them would be able to compare it to signings/appointments made long before their birth (and my own, though unequivocally not a teenager anymore).

For what it's worth, I'd struggle to see any signing beating Vicente in terms of player ability/reputation when they arrive here, that was, to me, an entirely different level.

The hype would probably be bigger simply down to social media and 'the modern way'. Whatever the publicity, I honestly feel that should BZ return then it should be treated with tempered caution so as not to end up disappointed.

As mentioned numerous times, any happy reunion would need to be part of a bigger scheme with several players brought in to play other positions in desperate need of improvement.

Eggs in one basket might spring to mind.

Fifty years later the hype will inevitably be bigger, in the same way that wages are. Back then, there was no social media, no Sky Sports, no NSC even! Just the papers and Sports report on the radio at 5 o'clock on Saturdays in the winter.

A little over a year before Smith joined us, he was England centre-forward. One of the best front men to lead a line in post-war football. Long career with Chelsea and Tottenham but was an inveterate gambler and his knees were starting to go. I watched him that season with us and he was different class but clearly on the way down.
Like Vicente, it was all too brief and ultimately ended in tears. I would prefer to remember Zamora for that glorious left foot and 63 goals in two seasons.

Why would it spoil it?

Surely we all have the capacity to treat a return of BZ with reason, realism and perspective? Ignoring his age for a moment, he is now a different type of player and, in my view, has something to offer us that we currently don't have.

I'd be delighted to see him back but, if it didn't work out, it wouldn't diminish the great memories in the slightest.

And anyone who over-hypes his return has only themselves to blame.

Bobby Smith was even more of shock given he moved from double winners in Div 1 to a team mid table in Div 4.
30something Prem strikers dropping down to the Champ is routine stuff these days. Even for the Albion.
BZ would be more like Peter Ward's 2nd act, returning after the Forest move, although Ward was still only 28 then.

Correct we only paid £5,000,but a certain bookie wrote off his gambling debts.I was doorman on a casino along by the West Pier,Bobby was always in there,he only had one season with us 19 goals,top scorers were Howard Wilkinson and Noddy Goodchild...104 goals that season,every forward,including the reserve forward,Cassidy got into Double figures goalwise.That is why I despaired at last seasons efforts in front of goal.
Watching Bournemouth games on TV When they were attacking they had six players running forward with at least 4 in the box...I'd rather see us lose 4-5 than lose 1-0,the game for entertainment and excitement is goals,all this back passing and across the field is boring...GET IN THERE MY SON!
