I find this whole Philip Schofield story astonishing. I have no idea how this is "national news". I've never been a fan of his, but this strikes me as flat out bullying by the press. Isn't their treatment of him exactly the sort of thing that happened to Caroline Flack, and people were outraged by in the aftermath of her suicide?

Unless it's revealed and proven that he has somehow abused, coerced etc this young man it's an absolute disgrace.
It's basically the media using a moral judgement (gay man has affair with younger man) to create outrage and it's bullying and utterly distasteful.

If it was me and I hadn't actually done anything wrong (as in illegal wrong, not just deemed to be 'wrong'), I would go after every single person who has suggested I had and demand a) a public apology and b) a large donation from them to charity.

Maybe the likes of GB News would like to bother with stories that ACTUALLY matter to people. For all their talk of balance, integrity, freedom of speech and not cancelling anyone, they doesn't exactly practice what they preaches, do they?

Hmmm. Risky. The thing with libel and slander is that it has to be untrue, or at least not factually provable to be true.

If one makes a libel claim for relief through the courts, they are actually hugely exposing themselves to a real risk of opening a door for evidence to be entered against them, which then (in most cases) will become public record and can be damning.

For example, if one has a court enforced injunction to prevent discussion of aspects of a case, and a reporter or broadcaster breaches this, it is a legal matter - criminal contempt.

If the plaintiff seeking relief then sues for libel, this will lead to a dissolution of the injunction in order for the defendant to plead their case in court using information which were prior under lock and key.

There is a reason more don’t sue for defamation, and that is that if the entity making the allegation is telling the truth, and can prove it, you are absolutely f***ed.

I understand, the problem is it is early stages and there may very well be a good reason. As I’ve said repeatedly, time will tell when the facts are allowed to come out. Until then Eamonn Holmes would’ve been better putting his feet up in his shit Revitive and leaving well alone. The guy is the last person anyone wants to hear from, whether he’s right or wrong.
