How do you convert an 80 thousand seater into 25? Do you just spread the seats out? Are every other seat a temp' seat?

The design includes a sunken bowl featuring permanent seating for 25,000 spectators, with the remaining 55,000 seats in a temporary structure at the top.

Lest we forget...

The Sydney Olympic stadium (Stadium Australia) which was the largest facility ever built for an Olympic Games. The stadium sat 110,000 people in 2000. Designed by Bligh Voller Nied with the London-based Lobb Partnership, the Sydney Olympic Stadium was tailored for the Australian climate.

Critics of the Sydney Olympic Stadium say that although the design is functional, its appearance is uninspiring. The size of the place, combined with the technical demands, meant that art had to take a back seat. What's more, the huge structure dwarfs the nearby aquatic center and tree-lined boulevards. Noted architect Philip Cox told reporters that the Sydney Stadium "looks like a Pringles potato chip, does not break new ground, and is not iconic enough."

However, now:
Apparently, this development cost AU$600 million to build, but today it seems to be a bit of a white elephant. We were the only people to get off at this station. It was so deserted that we could almost hear the wind whistling between the buildings (a la the best Westerns) as we approached it.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
it looks ok, lets hope they dont get Multiplex to build it otherwise it will never be ready for the 2016 olypmics

Multiplex finished the whole of Sydney (Arena/Village etc) a year early. I would suggest that it was the FA, sub-contractors and British 'Fry up, cup of tea, read the Sun and a dump before we start' builder that delayed things.

Why do builders always wait until they get to your residence to have a steaming dump?

£500 million to end up with a 25000 seater stadium means that each seat will end up costing £20K! To put this in perspective Falmer will work out at £2K per seat. Seems like a whole lot of money for a temporary stadium to last a few weeks in the summer of 2012.

The garb on the Beeb:

# a sunken bowl built into the ground for the field of play and lower permanent seating, designed to bring spectators close to the action;

# 25,000 permanent seats, 55,000 demountable;

# a cable-supported roof that will stretch 28 metres the whole way around the stadium, providing cover for two-thirds of spectators;

# a fabric curtain will wrap around the stadium structure, acting as additional protection and shelter for spectators;

A f***ing CURTAIN
Oh well done everyone. Pride of LONDON that will be.
"Ooh its raining"
"Its alright, don't worry. Lets draw the CURTAIN round our £500m stadium. You'll be alright."

:lolol:
Absolute two-bob.
