Chawla is younger than Ollie, and seems to be a better batsman and bowler. If Ollie spent more time working on his game as he does moaning about his lot, then he'd be the player he thinks he is.

I've only spoken to him once, just after Sussex won their last championship at the Cricketers, and he was complaining then that he fwelt he needed to leave Sussex to get a chance... well, that was 18 months ago, and he still seems to have the same concerns.

he needed to grab his numerous chances when they came his way and he hasnt quite managed it, knuckle down and fight or bugger off.

I think we may well have him for a bit longer depending on whether Yasir recovers from injury/gets selected fpr the Pakistan tour.

Ollie does have the right to be a bit miffed but he started the season infjured & hasnt really got going this year. He will certainly get his chance agian but in the interim Pushy has the shirt & has proved himself to be a match winner. its a shame we cant have him & yasir in the same side.......bloody rules

I thi nk Sussex may well play both Pushy and Rayner in the match starting tomorrow against Somerset, as the track may take spin (at least more then new Road did), so we get the chance to see the 2 of them head to head.

I'd love Ollie to deliver on his potential, he's shown that he can be dangerous with the ball, but he seems to have gone backwards with the bat.

"Sussex have signed a new spin bowler in Piyush Chawla this week and I'd be lying to say I wasn't a bit gutted.

"I can only see it reducing my chances in the future and I'm at a point where I'm not really sure where I'm going.

"I suppose I could look at the positives and say that it's good for the team to have a bit of competition and I could pick up a bit from watching him.

"But the best way of learning and improving is just to get out there and find things out for yourself on the pitch. That's the only way of really learning.

"After the year I had last year, I was hoping they would stick me in for a bit longer but I suppose that is the world of professional sport. I can't see them using two spin bowlers.

"I was quite happy with the way I bowled at Headingley this week, although ultimately it was without reward.

"It was also nice to take five catches. I dropped one at Durham and we have been doing a lot of work on that front so hopefully that's me off and running. It's always difficult taking slip catches when you've not been out there playing.

"The game was a great advert for four-day cricket thanks to a brave declaration from Anthony McGrath which meant the game could have gone either way. It's a shame we didn't bat well enough to see out the game.

"Being over at Yorkshire meant I missed Eastbourne's game at the weekend and I don't really know what to say about that result.

"They had a strong side out against Cuckfield. I think it was only me and James (Kirtley) that were missing but they are a great group of lads and are more than capable of bouncing back."

That's an extraordinary article from a professional player: it's the sort of thing you might say privately to your best mate: but surely in public he should welcome the competition and say he's determined to win his place back? But to come out with `I'm not really sure where I'm going` - doesn't speak volumes about his tenacity and determination to improve.

Chawla came in and instantly scored a century and took 6 wickets in an innings. Ollie Rayner needs to re-read his article, then have a long, hard think about his attitude to professional cricket.

I doubt OR would have contibuted as much as Pushy in winning that game at Worcestershire. OR has potential there is no doubt, but this article must cast doubts on his temprement.....every team needs battlers not people who run away from a challenge.
