[Technology] Oldish tech - Did anyone have an IPod Touch?

I've always been most comfortable with moving podcasts onto an MP3 from I-Tunes on a laptop.
Don't judge me that's just where I stopped 'keeping up with the Joneses'.

Anyhoo a couple of weeks ago I poured a cuppa over the laptop and it didn't take too kindly to the experience, although bless it, the thing is still trying for me.

A £100 6th/7th generation Touch from eBay, appears to cut the laptop out of the process, already has I-Tunes and works as a fancy pants MP3 for use in the car and sleeping (not at the same time)

Is that the case?

What type of mobile phone do you have? Could just do this in your phone and not use an extra bit of tech

An old Motorola, that doesn't connect to the music box in my car!!!!!

Plus I do like having them separate, I am a creature of habit.
Basically I'm trying not to buy a replacement cheapo lap top, just for I-Tunes.

Seemingly the Touch arrived on the market as I was leaving.
All I'm after is a bit of validation 'yep that's what the Touch did and it was good at it' type thing.

A 7th gen iPod Touch is essentially an iPhone 7 with functionality removed. You’d be far far better off with an iPhone 7/8, refurbished for under £100 that you only use as a music device.

I bet if you asked around someone will have an old iPhone spare in a draw somewhere, so you could get it for nothing.

Reset the device to factory settings, don’t insert a SIM card, plug it into your laptop if you want to upload tracks the old fashioned way, and use the podcast app to download episodes directly onto the device etc.

I just can’t see the iPod touch being a useful purchase in comparison to a throwaway iPhone (they’re essentially the same) especially as you’d be essentially buying it at collectors prices.

And do NOT upgrade to the operating system to whatever it wants you to. It’ll turn the phone into a brick.

That was a bit silly

This is correct - an iPod Touch is/was essentially an iPhone without the cellular connectivity bit, so slimmer and lighter too.

An iPod Shuffle would be a lot cheaper as it's got a lot less functionality, but wouldn't fulfil the "cut out the laptop" bit.

Get with the program Pops, buy yourself a smartphone.
I do have such a thing I am using it right now - I just don't use it for my podcast listening.

Obviously nobody is interested, but I did ask, you replied, and unlike most other in this situation here's the denouement.

I tried to source a free 'kitchen draw' I-Phone to no avail.
It turns out in my original half arsed search id over priced the I-Touch.
EBay has them a tiny bit cheaper than the iPhone.

I went with a £50 Touch and am very happy.
It all synched up, connects to my head phones and car wireless.

Stat Top Tip:-

This Ian Phone fella might be onto something, I suggest you guys keep an eye on this little start up, they might have a future as technology rolls forward.
