If Oldham go bust, then it will be a very worrying day for football. the implications could be far reaching as pointed out earlier

Injury blow for Oldham

Oldham's preparations for the new season have suffered a further blow after David Beharall was ruled out of action through injury.
The Latics defender could miss up to a month of the new campaign as he needs an operation on his knee.

The 24-year old cost the club £150,000 from Newcastle last year and made 39 appearances for Iain Dowie's side.

Oldham's New Zealand striker Chris Killen is also unavailable through injury as he has a fracture in his foot, according to the club's official website.

The Kiwi hitman spent the summer playing for his country in the Confederations Cup and is facing two weeks out.

This is the reason that Oldham are having to go into administration. They spent far more than they could afford on players.

Think yourselves lucky we have someone who isn't prepared to overspend and keep us afloat.

I know what I'd rather have

I try not to think about not getting Falmer coz i seriously believe the Albion will go out of business if Falmer doesn't happen.

I do have sympathy for the fans of Oldham, but as a club, the way it has been run is an absolute joke. They spent half a million quid last summer on a couple of players, and have spent over a million in the last 18-20 months. What the f*** did they expect was going to happen ? Sure enough, a year down ther line they are laying off staff left, right and centre and not paying their players.

I don't want to see Oldham go out of business, but if they come round with "begging buckets" at our games, I will not be donating. I'd rather spend the cash in our club shop - at least the Albion is run as a club within its means. If the owners hadn't royally pissed cash around on players they couldn't afford, they wouldn't be in this mess, simple as. And thats not hindsight - thats basic common sense. OAFC has been run by a bunch of fecking idiots, and as always, its the fans that will pay the price.

Easy 10 !!

I do understand what you are saying, but we all know that a club is at the mercy of it's owner, and lets be fair, if DK said now, here is 2 million quid for transfers, we would all be jumping for joy. We wouldn't know if the club had been mortgaged.

I know what you mean about buckets and appeals, they are becomming so regular now. I also agree our club needs all the money it can get from us. But I WILL give to the Oldham Supporters Trust if they appeal while I am there, so that they can have the same chance we had, to save our club.

I WILL NOT however fork out if the money is going to the club when still owned by a toss pot.

If Oldham go bust that is just a few 1000 more kids that will grow up supporting Megabucks Utd up the road!!!  :censored:

The people I really feel for here are the supporters, I know how desperate we were when Archer and his henchmen did their level best to finish the Albion off, for a while things were pretty bleak, we were saved by a miracle.

Oldham are going to need an absolute miracle to save them, sadly we were a lesson to other clubs, it just appears that some have chosen to ignore it. It is important to learn from your mistakes in life and not to repeat them, it is equally important to observe and avoid those made by others. A lot of people were predicting that last season would see a number of clubs fail to fulfil their fixtures, that didn't happen, sadly this coming campaign could be one too far for more than just Oldham.

If DK suddenly started spending money like there's no tomorrow, lashing out £250k here and £150k there, wouldn't you start feeling a little anxious ? We know he hasn't got that kind of money, and I for one would hate to see the Zamora money squandered. We got £1m in that deal. Perhaps making £200k available to SC would be prudent, and who knows, maybe that kind of figure has been put aside to cover the wages of a few freebies this summer.

You cut your cloth according to your circumstances. Oldham havn't done that, and now they're paying the price. I do feel sorry for their fans - its not their fault, and as always, the fans are the ones left standing by the club and trying to pick up the pieces after the gross incompetence of those running the club.

I sincerely hope that Oldham somehow survive, and by and large, clubs usually do one way or the other. But its disgusting how fans are the last resort to have to try to scrape some funds together to bail out the dickheads who put the clubs in that position.

StaffsGull is spot on about this - if the 'begging buckets' are on behalf of the Supporters' Trust, give generously. But we shouldn't be handing out cash to the :censored: that has screwed the club.

Apparently there is a campaign starting up to have that stupid rule that league teams have to be businesses scrapped. Not before time. If clubs weren't businesses, they couldn't be screwed by asset-strippers, they couldn't be screwed over when the man in charge suddenly calls it a day, and the fans would have more say in the way they are run. Damn right!

It's times like this when some shoyld appreciate DK quite a bit more.

Buying players for £150,000 can cripple clubs.

If the money from recent sales was meant to balance the books it clearly hasn't worked.

Similar situation at Leeds who's Premiership status is all that's keeping the wolves at bay (for now) .

Fear that the Latics will go to the wall and we will open the season with a free day:glare:
