Yesterday I was asked in a pub for ID. I'm 39. It's the first time I've been asked since I was 18.

I was at the airport yesterday and they asked for my passport.

25. And that was because there was a policy of asking everyone for id, regardless of how old they looked. It was an impromptu decision to go as well, so I didn't have id, but because it was obvious I was old enough (I've been able to get served at bars without id since I was 14) he accepted a bank card as id.

Never been asked in my entire life for ID to prove my age. I'm 57 and when I was in my teens and twenties, people didn't tend to carry ID, and pubs etc just used common sense in deciding whether to serve you. Usually they did serve you

I have, however, been asked loads of times for ID when crossing borders, when opening bank accounts, or when picking up parcels from the post office.

Still get IDed at 26 when buying booze from shops, although not pubs and clubs anymore.

Is it just me or do people generally look younger these days?

I think it's more that the 'ask for ID' age has increased, used to be 21, then 25, now you see signs that say 'if you look under 30, we'll ask you for ID.

In answer to the thread I was asked the other day and I'm 20. Wasn't asked for about a year before that though.

When I did bar work in the USA you had to 'card' everyone regardless of their age so we'd be wasting our time asking pensioners for their ID. Utterly ridiculous.

When I was 24 I was asked by a nightclub bouncer how old I was. I told him '19' with a big grin on my face, to which he replied 'sorry sonny, its an over 21 nightclub. Bye.'

And that was that. I didn't have anything on me to prove I was 24...

but you're about 9 feet tall !

Indeed, not to mention that I was unshaven at the time and had at least 3 fully visible tattoos.

The ridiculous thing about the whole incident is that after I said that I didn't have any ID on me (I don't drive, and for some reason wasn't carrying my passport around the supermarket), the lady behind the till just said "Oh OK, I'm sure it's fine" and proceeded to serve me anyway!
