Does anyone remember Bygones in Lancing - up by Tony Buss sports? Picked up a load of Albion programmes from there when it was going for pennies. The oldest was from 1958 V Boro, whose star player was a young centre forward whose career was cruelly cut short by injury. He went on win a few trophies as a manager with Forest. I think he scored four or five against us in the return fixture, which they won 8-0. Also loved the old football reviews which padded out the four pages of the official programmes in the 60's, packed full of ads for fags and beer!

For those who aren't already members, the Collectors & Historians Society is a great way to learn and develop your knowledge of the history of our amazing club. For £10 a year, you get a quarterly 'Albion Chronicle' packed with brilliant articles on everything to do with our history. The Society are driving the project to open a Museun at Falmer and are committed to preserving historical items relating to our club. The Society meet every quarter in Dick's Bar - next meeting is 3rd May which is the AGM.

It's £10 very well spent. If anyone wants to join, PM me your E Mail address and I'll send you a form.

So which shops sell old Albion programmes at the moment?

Step Back in Time on Queen's Road, almost next door to the club shop.

Any where else?

For Christmas my girlfriend bought me an Albion programme from my Birthday in 1986. Looked pretty random but it was a fantastic read and a really thoughtful present.

Brilliant. My son bought me a programme for a Father's Day present last year. He looked in my database and worked out one that I needed and bought in on eBay -

1st January 1983 v Watford, the first Albion game I attended. Not the one I bought at the time but obtained off eBay. Dire 1 - 1 draw, forgot until I saw the video on YouTube that Peter Ward was back on loan from Forest and scored! Great cover pic of Grealish looking at the ball with a puzzled look on his face as though he wasn't sure what to do with it - from my memories of him that was usually the case!

I'm still trying to understand Gerald Sinstadt's commentary from that game. What kind of commentator's sentence would end "... Perry Digweed not in the Watford half"?

mine dates from 10th september 1960 played against rotherham, the team as follows

1 hollins
2 mcnicol
3 little
4 bertolini
5 jennings
6 burtenshaw
7 tiddy
8 mcneill
9 curry
10 thorne
11 laverick

kick off 3.15 match ball sponsor, tamplin's ales, phoenix brewery

inside the programme it states there is room for 16,000 under cover, excursion to our next match southampton away by british rail only 10/6

oklahoma was on at the astoria and frankie vaughan at the hippodrome, you could book a ticket on brighton 23131 (only 5 digit phone numbers back then) now were a city!

we won this particular game 1-0,finished the season 16th,liverpool finished 3rd! we actually beat them that season at the goldstone 3-1

went out to burnley in the fa cup after a replay, but burnley did finish 4th in div 1

anyone remember any of these players,i recognise thorne,he's the local lad that banged in 5 against watford, but the others, apart from bertolini,i don't know much about them

I was at the Liverpool game. Remember Ian St. John got really pissed off. Albion played well that day during the pre-Seagulls era. It was a big skalp as Liverpool had some of the players who went on to be in their all conquering teams of the 1960s/70s.

My oldest programme is away to Millwall on 7th December 1912.

Oldest home prog is against Portsmouth on 19th April 1944.

Before anyone asks, yes I am paid-up member of BHACHS and have been for at least 12 years.

I love the history in them (adverts, past names, style of writing, etc...) and the bonus is that they are worth a shed-load more than I have paid collecting them over the last 30 years.

It's a great hobby, but with the increased size of progs in recent years I have had to buy all the other houses in my street to store them.

football programmes are a great source of information,i've spent many a night picking out a season and reading the progs in chronological order watching the season unfold in front of my eyes, especially the seasons before my time

even started buying the next programme of the team brighton had played away,as to read a report on the brighton game
