[Albion] Older ‘experienced pro’ signing?

Do we really need more ageing players?
Surely Dunk, Gross, Milner, Veltman, Welbeck, Steele are enough?
Add in Solly and Webster to that list and surely we have enough experienced players to guide the youngsters?

Unless we're bringing in someone likely to start every game, I' m really not interested in helping another old-stager begin their decline into retirement.

Lallana leaves a gap. It's not just 'age' or 'experience', it's a winning mentality.
I really want us to go for it in the cups this season, a lot is down to luck of the draw (just one home tie would be nice!), but in the later stages you need a few who have been there before.

Thiago is probably the closest we could come to directly replacing Lallana - in that he's a very experienced, very technical player who plays on the half turn and can control the tempo of a game................ and he's always bloody injured!

Joel Matip or Thiago would be amazing, albeit both with awful injury records. Ben Yedder would also be a good addition.
The problem with signing an experienced striker is who makes way? We have Welbz, Fergie, Pedro, and potentially also Undav competing for the CF role -- and that's excluding O'Mahony who I expect will go out on loan.

Otherwise, and putting aside the question of how big a salary we would have to pay, Memphis Depay is also a free agent. Beside forwards, there's Davy Klaassen.

Lallana leaves a gap.
Yup.

A huge gap in our wage bill and on the treatment table.

Good player, but IMO it was right to let him go.

A side wanting to be top 10 doesn't have Lallana starting many games - the PL is all about pace and with Gross a nailed on starter (if he's still with us) there's not room for both (let alone Milner)

This -

Pace is in much shorter supply than experienced pros.

Looking at the stats, 28 appearances in all competitions this season for Eriksen compared to Lallana's 30 but Eriksen played 1,428 minutes and was involved in four goals whereas Lallana managed only 951 minutes and notched just the one assist.
I also think that Eriksen was available for far more games than Lallana, but Ten Haag chose not to select him.

Lallana was on the treatment table and unavailable.

The most curious thing..
The return of Jesse Lingard.

Perhaps not.
