Lots of people suggesting the Swansea-Man City game should be delayed as well, in order to maintain the integrity of the Premier League.

Not really sure I agree with that, as it's not like the title is at stake, only the pressing issue of which Manchester club qualifies for the Champions League. Meh.
It doesn't really affect who finishes 4th. If the games were played together, City would only need a draw regardless, so it wouldn't really affect how they play. Utd would go all to win, in the hope that City lose.

But if Utd play later, and City have already got 4th, then Utd might settle for a draw to finish above West Ham or Southampton.

I do hope that package was seriously suspicious. I really hope it hasn't gotten to a stage where all you have to do is leave a backpack lying around somewhere to call off an entire event like this.

But that's always been the case - look at airports, rail stations etc et

That's normally dealt with by a controlled demolition somewhere, without them evacuating the entire place.

Wait- you think they blow suspect packages up without any sort of evacuation?

Close your eyes, folks, this might sting a bit, sort of thing?

Why abandoned rather than postponed given that the game hadn't started.

I think if postponed then the game must be played at a future date, but if abandoned then the Premier League can decide if the game has to be played or can be decided as a 0-0 draw,

I assume given the FA Cup Final Utd wouldn't be keen on playing this week so would push the end of the league reason back to 25th May.

Will be interesting to see what is done about playing the game

They cannot afford to take any chances these days.
Things have been learnt from the days of the IRA tactics, of one eod at each end of area, one goes off then crowd / public escape to other resulting in chaos.
You only get one life in this world :)

Controlled explosion now

Well, not necessarily!

The EOD team will go in and have a look at it. They'll only destroy it if it is deemed to be something to worry about, or if they can't determine what it is.

I once had a huge cordon around a primary school for four hours for a suspicious object that some builders dug up. Turned out to be an ornamental pineapple :D

(in fairness, it was covered in decades worth of masonry and even the EOD chaps said they thought it was a WW2 shell when they first turned up )
