Old photos of the Goldstone

I'm sure that this has come up before, so I apologise in advance! It was my birthday yesterday and my good lady bought me some old Albion memorabilia which included a picture of the Goldstone; which is the nuts! She said that is is from 1910. I'm curious as the ground seems to have absolutely no infrastructure around it at all. Can any of you good chaps of NSC recommend any websites where I might be able to see anymore historical photos of our hallowed stadium?
Thanking you all in advance.

Check out The James Gray Collection look for volume 16 North west Hove, start on pictures 65-80 and you will find some fantastic pictures of the Goldstone, I had never seen these before, examples below show the ground as a farm and the again during the early 1900's when the East bank was mud and no goldstone lane existed, then again see it in the 1950's, 2 months before the original west stand was knocked down and replaced with what many of us knew and loved.
The below picture of the farm can be hard to make out, as I understand the curving wall in the foreground shows wher Goldstone lane will be, The south stand would back onto somewhere near those farm buildings.
The picture below that shows shows 2 houses, one of which was Goldstone house, tha't the angle the top shot was taken from.

That's great, cheers very much Liam82. My picture shows a huge bike shed the length of the south stand that's full with more bikes strewn all over the place. It's mad to think that they were playing footy there for so long.

Is that the one taken from the south, looking north up towards the Engineerium?

It's hard to say, 2 pictures below show that the remains of the farm were directlly behind the south stand, you can see the south west floodlight and the roof of the west stand.

the next one shows a shot looking west from the top of the floodlight at the north end, you will see in this picture there are a few chimneys in the area similar to the engineirium ( forgive spelling )

The stand in the last photo looks almost new, do you know when this was taken?

Caption reads: This photograph of central Hove dating from about 1963, shows many features, which have now gone. First, the extensive and then busy railway goods yard (now Sackville Industrial Estate). At the right, St Joseph’s Home (Little Sisters of the Poor), now a vast garden Centre. In the centre, the Leighton Road Destructer Chimney and, hazily in the far distance, the Portslade Gas Works, with beyond the Brighton A.and B. Power Station at Southwick.

Way out west
They're never gonna hit the target like that

I am still trying to work out what Blakey, from holiday on the buses, is doing there...either trying to round them up or moonlighting as an archery judge?

Looking at the last picture, it beggers me to think, why was the ground never developed on with more seats rather than some portacabins in the space available.

God I miss that place!

I think you mean 81 - 96

The 11th picture is fantastic (for some reason it won't display on here)

The year the secretary forgot to apply for exemption for the early rounds of the cup. Only the Albion could do that!

Imagine NSC's reaction if that happened now.

We made a profit that year, was that the last time :lolol:

And we even beat Palace so it must have been our best - or at least - longest cup run ever. 8 victories - enough to win the cup this season.

Thank God the secretary remembered 50 years later.
