Oh, just remembered first year at HGS we had an ex soldier called Grant for PE. He used to either whack you with a plimsole or the leather bound bottom of a climbing rope of you did just about anything wrong or dodn’t follow instruction. Usual rules re showering - run through the cold showers in a line with the PE master watching every move.

Only had Jack for a couple of lessons when someone was sick - most of maths was with Duster Bennett and Les Hamilton who I still see in Sainsburys from time to time. Piggy Balsdon geography. Tabby used to do a lot of the caning with Joe Allen in attendance with a bucket for the blood. Loopy Lou last seen in a beige mac somewhere East Street way in the 70s.
