My first car was a Rapier series IV, lovely car. Wanted a Lotus Cortina though
THere are several Rapiers and a MInx racing in 50's saloons . . .and Alpines. I built quite a few engines for them. 1725's make great torque, but for class victories the latert 5 bearing 1500, with MGB steel rods, Forged bespoke pistons, a cam and webers, 140 BHP at 7000rpm. Cars are heavy though.

a Lotus twin cam is hard to beat. great sountrack, only the Alfa sounds as good/better without adding more cylinders.

dragging vaguely on topic . . . The Rootes group were well represented locally, and Harringtons had dealerships in Worthing as well as the coachworks in 'Ove actually, a few hundred yards from the Goldstone.

You cant just put this photo up without at least giving us a hint to the event that drew in so many people. Some kind of London to Brighton run but which one.
Also that church in Queens Square. Who on earth allowed its demolition?

This was a photo from its reopening in 1929 - could be the same event?
