Used to go to the right side lagoon to run my model sail boats.
I worked on those gardens in the summer of 1973. The bloke in charge (Bert) had as much "get up and go" as a stoned sloth, and lead by example. One day, he sent me on the "fine" mowing round which consisted of the grass in the picture, around the Peace Statue and a little bit at the bottom of Bedford Square. I started after dinner at 2.00 pm (our dinner time was officially 12.30pm -1.30pm), and by 3.30pm I'd finished. I cleaned and put the mower away, found Bert and asked him what he wanted me to do next. He said I'd been exceedingly quick, scratched his head, looked puzzled, thought for a bit and then said, "You might as well go home.", so off I went. We should have finished at 5.00 pm!
Happy days.
Do you think the photo was taken around 1973?

I don't know what he's doing with his hand, but he's looking at a cartoon postcard of a young lady with enormous breasts, in her garden pointing at a nesting box saying "Have you seen my tits?"
Check out this thread on Twitter:-
A fella is trying to track down all the postcards visible in that photo

Odd and scary what past as humour before I was walking!
Thanks Stat, just had a look, I did notice a few postcards of Brighton he's also looking for.
I'm enjoying this thread but I wouldn't even think about what he's doing.
