Just clearing out the loft, I have a very old, very large bible. 18"x12"x4.5" in very poor condition. When we first moved in 30+ years ago we took it to a book restorer who told us it was an old Church bible which includes the apocrypha, which I believe was removed from the bible from late 1800s onwards. I remember at the time they quoted £400-£500 to restore it and it would then be valued at £400-£500, so back in the loft it went.

It's in a pretty sorry state, but if anyone knows of someone who'd like it (brighton area) rather than me just dump it, please just let me know.

I thought the apocrypha was oft used in catholic bibles beyond the 1800s. It's a fascinating find, mind.

What does it say in the front of the bible re: introduction and attributions ?

Blimey. We have an old family Bible that I need to take to be rebound. If it's going cost me a monkey I may not bother. My Bible is in Welsh, a bit more curiosity value, but I'm not sure it's worth the money

A good quick option would be to donate it to your nearest Christian bookshop.

Alternatively I'd be happy to do that for you with Books Alive in Elm Drive, Hove. I'm currently in the B&H area, so I can do this it it helps. :)

"This is a work of fiction. Unless otherwise indicated, all the names, characters, businesses, places, events and incidents in this book are either the product of the author's imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental."

I'd be happy to take the book in question off OP's hands next home League game rather than have it fall into the hands of a Christian bookshop or a skip. But first a couple of questions:

1. Is that the version with the nice God or the vengeful God?

2. Does it fit into an A4 bag?

Similar to the Libarian in the US who dropped themselves in the ‘brown and smelly‘ by moving the Bible, Quran, Torah etc into the fantasy and science fiction section.

What a wonderful thing, whether you choose to beliece, or otherwise, you really do have history in your hands. Dumping it would be absolutely criminal in my eyes.

Indeed so.

Just like old churches that can be esteemed for their architecture, design and tranquility, antique literature can be appreciated regardless of belief.

It's not a case of blind veneration that automatically sacrifices scientific scrutiny, but just simple respect really.

No need for any lighting of blue touchpaper on this thread. Bonfire Night's over 2 months away. ;)

There's already enough false prophets mentioned in Scripture without me adding any false profits of my own. :)
