I guess that sums up why you're a Tory and I'm Socialist then Yorkie. We both have gold memberships, but I'm still naturally drawn to ranting about an obvious social injustice. My fault, I'm sure

I am not a Tory. I have voted Tory just a couple of times in my life when I was trying to vote tactically to get the Lib Dem out.
What a silly thing to post Tom.

Edited to add that I aimed that post at Gerbil and he knows why. He is another one who boasts that he doesn't go to Withdean.

KSA has already explained that it isn't a contract but a scheme.

I did, and I was wrong. The old AMS is covered by contract law, but with scheme provisions in place. As THPP pointed out there were numerous T&C's that we had to obide by as part of that scheme, and I have no doubt that there will be a provision for the club to close the scheme or do with it as they see fit.

So while there is, or was, a contract in place once the club have given adequate notice for the contract to end and for the scheme to change and that time has passed any members of the original scheme that have not re-registered or become members through their season tickets will be deemed to have let membership lapse and the contract will be null and void. This is my understanding of it anyway, and I believe that if tested this would stand up. Of course I hope no one tries it.

Sorry Yorkie but it had to said. I've been present at your pro-Thatcher anti-miner rants more than once. Anyways, this isn't the time or place. And friends shouldn't ever discuss politics. Hands up, my fault for bringing it up. Still think you should try a wee bit harder to see the side of folks that AREN'T Gold Members tho.

Not quite - for anyone who was an AMS member for free (which includes myself) there can be no contract as no consideration has passed from me to the club.

Those that did pay would have had a binding contract.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who queried this scheme (the old one) to be assured by the club that it was a once for all scheme (contract) with the fee set for life(of the member, not the scheme),and this has been reneged on by the club.

Don't care about the yeah, buts of it.The plain fact is that this is something the Board should reflect on with shame. It's only a tenner? It's only a tenner to the club, too.Fact is they've had my tenner for a deal they've backed out of.

Shabby.

No it didn't have to be said.
I haven't a different viewpoint to the miners strike because I was living in amongst miners and heard their point of view. That doesn't make me a Tory.

Shame on you for your accusations in a discussion about a football club.
I accept your apology (at least I think it was an apology) but it was well below the belt.

True, however a binding contract with scheme rules/t&c's attached. The point I was trying to make is simply with the right amount of notice and opportunity for the members to react what the club have done is legal.

I cant believe so many people arguing the toss for a tenner, in fact FREE had you filled in a simple form by the 31st Aug.

f***ing UNBELIEVABLE. :nono:

I'll be the first to admit I've not read most of this thread but the flavour I was getting was the lack of communication not the tenner itself.

Although, as I've already said, I completely understand why.

It's "IT'S" not "ITS"

</pedant>
I don't care if its ITS, IT'S or TITS.
IT'S ONLY TEN CHUFFING QUID OVER ABOUT 6 YEARS

Some people really, REALLY need to get a grip. I swear, I SWEAR some people are never TRULEY happy unless they have got something to latch onto, moan about or launch a frigging MORAL CRUSADE over.

Get over yerselves you miserable bastards. The club has just won the most titanic eight year battle in its entire history, a battle for its very EXISTANCE, and now you're quibbling about chucking them another ten poxy quid cos you missed a deadline, after you so generously gave them a whopping tenner YEARS back. Ten quid. Its not even a round of drinks. CHRIST !

(rant was not aimed directly at you btw Toronto)

I'm not but I think Mr Ban is going to be visiting your neck of the woods soon for such an outburst.

So there.
You mean Mr and Mrs Smack will be taking a short, sharp trip to Bottyland ?

Its a fair cop. I probably need the discipline.

I'm coming late into this debate, but the way I see it is this ...

1. People joined the old AMS and were told that this gave them the right to have some sort of priority for away tickets for life, without having to pay more.

2. That right was reconfirmed at the beginning of this season when AMS members were given the right to become White Members at no cost.

3. Some people chose not to take up the offer of free White Membership.

4. Some of the people who chose not to take up the offer of free White Membership are now complaining.

5. Tough. They chose not to act. They must take the consequences. The Club's offer (see 2) was a sufficient fulfilment of the original contract (see 1).
