These statements and pronouncements don't do football any good.

Like it or loathe it, the Premier League is where it is at, it is where any self-respecting Middle Eastern sheikh, Russian oligarch or American corporate hustler wishes to be. Not France. Or Germany. Or Spain.

Italy USED to be the best league with the best players but now it's in England. The best league attracts the best money.

I can't see how a salary cap would work pan-Europe, because a % ceiling on wages to turnover would still preserve the same imbalance in European football.

Being French and seeing Lyon dominate that domestic scene because of Champions League cash has probably clouded his vision.

It's about time Platini and his mob came up with a workable solution to the polarisation in the European game, not carp from the sidelines.

i do LOVE the way that he bleats on about the english league not being competitive due to the money and power of the big four - conveniently ignoring the fact that the french league is the LEAST competitive in the world owing to the fact that lyon have won it for SEVEN years on the trot now. only moldova has a worse record. FACTMUNDO

the guy is a f***ing prick

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Platini

The first steps on beating the teams that throw crazy money at a team to be the best. He has spoken more sense in his short tenure than any of the other governing bodies.

He was the Zidane of his day and, yes, he talks a lot of sense, but in the corporate world of top end football his words mean f*** ALL, only action matters.

Our Prem League has now developed into one of he who has the money wins the league. For many years clubs like Man Utd, Liverpool Arsenal and smaller clubs like Derby Notts Forest etc won our top division and then Jack Walker came along and bought the title for Blackburn after finishing 6th in what was then Div 2 and being promoted via play offs.

Then the problems really started when Abramovich bought Chelsea and the title and it has gone down hill since. Within 2 years Man City wil be the top dogs and buy the title.

How would they or Chelsea prosper if their money men suddenly decided to pull out as RA has said about Chelsea they have to be self supporting in 10 years. The only team to come out of this with credit is Aston Villa but how much has Randy Lerner put in, not in transfer fees, but to cover wages etc.

What Platini wants is the clubs to generate income and have wages etc capped as % of this income in order that they become more self reliant and not depend on a 'sugar daddy' What is so different in his idea for The Prem League than the FL who already have this wage cap?

Worthing
The other side of the argument is these club benefactors do bring money into the game. Also where would you stop? Would Dave Whelan have been allowed to bring Wigan through the leagues? We were hardly in a state to generate our own income in 97.

I would personally like to see the role of agents reviewed first. The money goes out of the game so if a player wants an agent he should pay him, not the club.
