IMHO, Richard Beeby is an outstanding ref whilst Wendy Toms is political correctness gone mad. As a ref, she can get away with it but running the line, she is far too slow. It will be like the Crewe lino all over again, I fear.
Maybe this will be the game where those decisions get evened out! :clap2:

This is a classic example of one of my bug bears of the beautiful game. What experience has she or any officials of playing. Therefore decisions can only be given from a theoretical point of view and not from using the tacit knowledge and experience gained from playing.

From my experience the blokes that became refs were those who who cried off PE etc cos mummy didn't want them to get a chill.

How did you first get involved in refereeing?

"I married an RAF officer and we were posted abroad to Cyprus. I'd always enjoyed playing football, but since there were no women's football teams in Cyprus I volunteered to take a refereeing course. When I came back to England I wanted to carry on refereeing so the first step was to pass a refereeing exam. Then I registered with the Dorset County FA and, like all referees, I progressed from a Class 3 referee to a Class 1 referee. I started officiating at local parks games, then I graduated to Vauxhall Conference teams, followed by The Football League and finally I was promoted to the list of assistant referees for The FA Premier League."

No, somerset, she actually gave the goal(ie starting running back to half way line) and it was the idiot referee who overuled her. He was the silly moo, not her. It was also her who allowed Lee Steele's dodgy looking winner against Bristol City at Withdean the same season. Is she Albion in disguise?

Wendy Toms has been around at this level for years, we must have had her running the line plenty of times, can't quite see why this time generates so much interest.

As for her not having played the game at the highest level affecting her ability to adjudge the rules, come off it, does a brain surgeon have to have had a frontal lobotomy himself in order to perform successful surgery on someone else? We all sit in the stand and feel able to call every decision with some authority so I'm sure someone with years and years of experience as a linesman (ok woman) has learnt the rules by now.

If she's shit, it's because she's shit, not because she's a woman.

Wendy Toms ran the line for our game against Rotherham last week. She had a decent enough game.

Utter bollocks, some refs are good players, and others are shite. I reffed for a few years but gave up Saturdays because of the Albion and Sundays because of the abuse.

Wenger and Ferguson never played at the top level, but they have managed to win a few trophies over here in the last 10 years.

Most players, when they hang up their boots, have no interest in refereeing, and most become unfit fairly quickly, as anyone who has seen recent pictures of John Barnes will testify. They would much rather be coaches or managers.
