For several years I worked in a Europe wide project team which comprised Brits, Germans, French, Italians a Dutch and Danish component too.

We became very close and, often, the piss taking and general mucking about at social events would often revolve around the common themes associated with each nationality (British= drunkards, ugly women etc, French= Sheep burning, eating everything they find etc., Germans= Humourless, Nazis, Italians= Cowards, show offs) and the odd Hitler salute or what not would be used.

Now. You need a group of men, booze, trust and willingness to take abuse as well as give it but, honestly, I’ve never been part of a more harmonious or productive group before or since. If none of Hennessys team mates have complained or demanded a full public apology I’d say just forget it, it’s clearly a joke and was done in a male drinking setting.

Get over your selves. Really.

I don't doubt any of that. I'm also not sure anyone on this thread has expressed any outrage, faux or otherwise. I really can't be arsed to go back and check.

You seem to be suggesting his excuse is absolute bollocks though, and on that pretty much the whole world agrees.

Agreed. I wasn’t specifically accusing anyone on this thread was getting hysterical about it, what I meant was that, in general the whole media, Talksport, social commentators etc.who are crapping on about this should get over themselves. If Hennessy chooses to make stuff up rather than just saying it was a poor joke and sorry it got into the public sphere then that’s his look out.

If Hennessy actually had some sympathy with national socialism, put stuff about his Facebook about holocaust denial or something similar then there’s a story. A pissed up goalkeeper throwing a Hitler salute at a German teammate is just a sign he’s a bit of a dick. Doing it for the camera means he plays for the clown car club of the EPL.

Not passing judgement on anyone but if I'm out drinking with a bunch of lads and one of them throws up a Nazi salute I'm just going to leave. Done in jest or not it's not something I find funny and isn't anything I want to be associated with.

Presumably this is Wayne's TOP LADZ BANTZ towards his German team mate Max Meyer, who posted the photo.

I thought that sort of thing went out with Stan Boardman's TV career.

I thought we had seen the last of it when we lost Bernard Manning!

Seriously though, what is all the fuss about. Would our lads have been any different if it had been an Albion players party, and Pascal Gross had taken a picture?

Of course it was sit where you like, and that's the problem.
The palace TEAM decided to be split based solely on racial grounds.

If that were my team I'd be very concerned about how much of a team they were.
Oh and I couldn't give a fudge about one person being a tit.

But that is not to say it's racial discrimination from either ethnic group, surely just badly managed. I expect you have managed multi cultural large teams of people, as I have, and found that this type of split happens routinely. It is a question of management whether or not you choose to do something about it.

His explanation for it should win an award for it's creativeness

:ffsparr: explanation worse than the offense. why not say "i had a few and thought it funny to do a mock Hitler like we all did as kids. sorry". which we did, and thats all this is. are we not allow to mock anything unless in carefully crafted TV comedy now?

Yeah I see no "outrage" on this thread.

However the excuse, that's pure GOLD. What a bell.

This would be a dull story that dropped down the online pages and feeds faster than a speeding bullet had it not been relating to Palace.

Because it is Palace one of their players has just tweeted one of the most unbelievable and laughable explanations for what was clearly a salute this is now on every major sports site and trending on twitter.

They really are the gift that keeps giving and sleep walk from one PR disaster to the next. Absolute joke of a club

Someone on Reddit came up with Kristallnacht Palace.

Which is just brilliant.

Now THAT is funny. Combined with Hennessys explanation has made my morning.

I’m now going to steal that and claim it as my own if that’s OK?

I mean, I've never worked in PR, but SURELY the right response would be "You've been caught out Wayne. Everyone knows it. Apologise, say it was a rubbish joke which clearly was in bad taste and you've apologised to Max Meyer for it".

People do stupid stuff sometimes.

Can we now all agree that...when we next play Palace...that we all don comedy Chaplin moustaches and chant “seig heils, seig heils” for real unlike the Met Police claimed we did at Millwall when they misheard “Seagulls” as the old Nazi Favourite greeting?

I’m sure it would be taken as a joke by the media.

I thought it was a Sun journalist that made the mistake about mishearing Seagulls at Millwall, not the police. I think it was also Millwall fans who got the blame.

I too laughed my bollocks off at his excuse.. :lolol:

The best way to point at someone is with all four fingers straight, and the best way to be heard is to cover your mouth.

What a twunt.

Whoever it was it was hilarious in its shitiness.

You’re right on both counts btw. I’m old.

Or maybe not...having just read Bozzas comment. Either way it’s peed all over my,already weak, joke.
