How can anyone make a judgement on 9 appearances in a struggling side? Might be ok might not..... Just saying

According to the Argus

O’Grady has also spoken about the difficulties he has encountered adapting to Albion’s tactics

Exactly, would be no surprise if he went to the Blades and scored loads

He probably will, as Hyypia also said recently he wished O’Grady would make more forward runs, rather than coming to the ball.
but is this not part of the problem with all our strikers they are starved of service to them to make forward runs.

Albion striker O'Grady is loan target for Blades

ALBION centre-forward Chris O’Grady has become a target again for Sheffield United.

Blades boss Nigel Clough has resurrected his interest in the Seagulls’ striker.

A loan return to the steel city for O’Grady, who had a spell with United’s cross-city rivals Sheffield Wednesday, could hinge on Albion manager Sami Hyypia landing the front man he is seeking before the transfer window for temporary deals shuts on November 27.

United wanted O’Grady in the summer, when Albion bought the 28-year-old from relegated Barnsley for £500,000 and awarded him a three-year contract in the wake of Leo Ulloa’s £8 million switch to Leicester.

Clough has injury problems in attack. He sees O’Grady as the solution to keep his side, currently eighth, on track in the congested League One promotion race.

O’Grady scored 15 goals in the Championship for Barnsley last season but has struggled to fit into Hyypia’s plans and playing style.

He was on the bench for Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at the Amex in place of the unwell Craig Mackail-Smith and came on in the closing stages.

It was only the eighth time O’Grady has featured in Albion’s 17 league outings and he has started just five of them.

Hyypia revealed to The Argus last month O’Grady was not for sale but admitted Albion would be prepared to let him leave on loan.

The Finn said recently he wished O’Grady would make more forward runs, rather than coming to the ball.

O’Grady has also spoken about the difficulties he has encountered adapting to Albion’s tactics.
Can he sharpen the Blades??

This whole O'Grady fiasco is a pretty stark illustration of the clubs failings when it comes to recruitment right now. We're told that we have this thorough scouting network under Burke's direction that identifies the right kind of players to bring in, to fit into our system, and yet here we have a player who Hyypia patently feels he can't work with, and the player himself admitting he's having to completely change his style of play order to try to fit in. Why bloody sign him then ??

Now I can accept every transfer is a gamble to a certain extent, there are a number of factors as to why some of them just don't work out. But when you add O'Grady to the likes of Obika, Lita, Rodriguez and (just as worryingly so far) Colunga and Baldock, then you've got to look at the recruitment policy. Burke won't carry the can for these results, yet he is apparently the driving force behind who we identify to bring in. How much influence Hyypia actually has on that front I have no idea, but when he was asked if he'll be bringing a striker in in January, his answer was "its not up to me".

The fact that the squad is now stuffed full of SIX loan signings, most of them short-term, is further proof of just how far off-piste we've drifted this last year or so. This season has echos 2008-09 under Adams Mk2, when we relied on a bunch of loan signings of varying quality (mostly piss-poor) who spent more than half a season going through the motions as we slid further into trouble. Obviously Salde eventually pulled it round, but we only stayed up on the final day. This season is feeling very similar though.

Deeply worrying.

O'Grady seems a model pro, my son was at a birthday party with his kid the other day, nice family. But he's a stage behind our ambitions as a football club and a loan move to somewhere where he will get regular football is probably best for all concerned

Yes, one Clough was more than enough at this club, thank you![/QUOTEWhatever guys. Just saying Nigel who did well at Burton, has not set the world alight since. That's all. OK as things stand he looks a better prospect that the current incumbent but I would not enforce a change just yet. Not that he'll ever come to Brighton. You might recall he did not want to play for us when he was a reserve at Forrest.

Let COG go out on loan, it's better for all concerned.

I fully expect Jeff Stelling to be regularly shouting out his name on Soccer Saturday as he does the business for the Blades, and I'm getting concerned that we've getting such little production from our recent signings. Just look at the names of the players who ARE consistently doing OK - Walton, Calde, Dunk, Ince, JFC, Lua Lua. They've been at the club for ages. Sami HAS to get production out of the new guys, but the fact they're all underperforming 'en masse' is very worrying.

he may well do as he's a Lge1/2 journeyman forward! - ideal for next season if we're in Lge1 but a lower league forward - look at his record!

Ever since Gus/club/GM (take your pick) broke up the Murray/Barnes partnership, we have struggled for goals. We either play a big bloke with no one to run off him or we play a little bloke who never gets the ball/cannot hold the ball or is out muscled by huge centre halves. If O'Grady could just be paired with Baldock/CMS/Clunge for a couple of games we might see how two up top could/would work. Is it not beyond Sami/Jones to try 4,1,3,2 or heaven forbid 4,4,2. Especially when we are so struggling for chances let alone goals.

How many strikers from oop north have come dahn sarf to play (?) for us and failed? Barn Door Billy . . . . a few others aren't there?

Coming down south doesn't always work out. See Billy Sharp. Even Daniel Sturridge!
