Why? Is having a 6' something "centre forward" a pre requisite? Spain seem to manage pretty well without.

Oh sorry, I thought you were being funny!?

I wouldn't have said 6' is a prerequisite, but Bundesliga / Champions League / Premiership / La Liga / International goals and still only 30 certainly would suggest that if he fancied it here, we'd take him like a shot!

If you cant see the difference between Brighton and Spain I might suggest you start to follow cricket.

True, bad example but we played most of last season with BDB/Vokes and whilst neither can be considered the real deal fact is they didn't get to see much of the ball either. I think there's more than a fair chance that Gus will bring in a big name box to box fella and we could be starting the season with a combination of CMS/Barnes/Hoskins

I didn't say he was on a pay as you play deal did I ?
When you've learnt to read you'll see I said his pay will be 'performance based'... other than that, do carry on...

What you said was:

"I think Vicente is almost certainly on a performance based pay deal so it's hard to put a figure on it.
If he doesn't play I don't reckon it costs us too much, but if he plays and scores a lot of goals it would cost us a nice few quid.
Take a look back at the home game against Portsmouth. When he scores the first goal Gus turns round to look up at the directors box, rubs his thumb and fingers together in a 'money' type way and shrugs then laughs."

He is not on that kind of deal... like most other players in our squad, he gets more money if he plays, but you make it sound like he gets virtually nothing if he doesn't (not true) and loads more if he does (also not true), so kindly stop spouting bollox...

Because in this division, you need height otherwise you lose out on those balls that you would win with a big lad up top.

Agree that you lose out on some things, but we started last season with combinations of CMS/Barnes/Hoskins and were scoring pretty well then. We then bring Barnes deep to accommodate our target man and guess what?

Gus has made it clear he would like to get in a striker with presence AS WELL AS a powerful midfielder... of course, he may not succeed in his aim, but... it is clear what he wants, and it won't be another smaller striker IMHO...

What? :D and I think its mainly due to the fact Gus wants the option of route 1 if we need to, especially against the better teams that close us down.

I'm not sure I can be arsed to trawl the whole thread, can someone who has tell me if there is there anything remotely likely in amongst the 5 pages, or is it the usual outlandish crap?

Would Swansea be a better example? In their promotion season none of their scorers was a "target man" (as I use the term), all under 6'

Over there
With all due respect to osrgull, I too can't be arsed to trawl through pages of speculation. Much prefer it when a thread about a specific player pops up and it can be followed.
As trivial as it is, this will be my only contribution to this thread. But before I depart I feel as if I should add a rumour.
Errrrr, mmmmm...... oh, I've just heard from a very reliable source that Steve Sidwell might be joining us. I just made that last bit up of course but it's about as accurate as others on here.

Just seen on SSn that Owen has had offers from 3 clubs wonder who they are?

1 is Melbourne heart in Oz according to press, how the f*ck could they consider themselves as more competitive or a better standard than the NPC.

I actually think for all Owens flannel its ONLY about money, he's lost the passion for the game.

NPC clubs can only pay limited wages, nobody earns 6 figures a week, prem clubs can pay a lot more as can many of the non competitive foreign leagues in Oz, middle east etc. he's just out to fill his pockets not his boots
