Just been through 400 miles for the year. This time last year it was about 100 :lolol:

Say what you like about Strava, but it's been really motivational for me. Whether it's the challenges or the lure of Local Legend laurels, it's one of the main reasons I'm running the routes and distances I am at the moment.

It might sound a bit mid-life crisis-y, but I'm 43 on the 31st and I've stuck a 200-mile target for the month in my head. Sounds pretty straightforward – and it IS for some of you Ultra-lovers – but when you're committed to getting out every day there's a lot of 'game management' going on. The wind was an absolute ARSE at times today, but at least it's wasn't raining too.

I'm chipping away at it, at the same time as concentrating on hills, on the way to another target of 50 miles for the week. Why do we do these things to ourselves? :dunce:

[MENTION=6886]Bozza[/MENTION] little more help please. It's my birthday next week and I'm undecided on the Nike Tempo NEXT% or the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus. They'll be used as training shoes for the Vaporfly.

Sorry - missed this.

I have both the Peg 36s and 37s in my current rotation. They're good solid all-rounders - the classic "daily trainer". If you were only going to own and use one pair of running shoes, the Peg is the Nike model you should probably go for.

I love my Tempo NEXT%. The initial reviews of them on the various running vlogs were not brilliant which put me off, but then better reviews emerged so I took the plunge and I've been delighted with them, but they do still seem be a bit of a Marmite shoe. They are my current "going for it today" shoes, and I save them for days when I really want to put some speed in, or my version of speed anyway.

I'm not sure if that helps or not - it probably depends on what other shoes, if any, you'll be using and what you want to get out of your new addition.

Went out for a run in the cold and pissing rain yesterday morning. Warmed up properly but came to a gate 1.5 miles in, pulled up to open it and 'ping' a sharp shooting pain went all the way through my right calf. Turned around and limped/walked home. The pain stayed throughout the day and i could hardly walk downstairs this morning. No running for me for a while:nono:

OK. this doesn't count in any way, shape or form. But just got back from a 5k in 20.57 (80.81%AG). This was entirely completed downwind (down-gale) and is clearly not one for the NSC Hall of Fame.

But at 66, with a dodgy knee and other bits of me falling apart, I thought it was getting towards last chance saloon time. If anyone fancies a phoney PB, head down to Worthing prom over the next couple of days..............

I think it gives me some motivation, but not huge amounts, but it's a great record-keeper.

I do like to take the occasional peek at the NSC Club weekly leaderboard to see how I'm stacking up against others, although it's generally a battle for third place each week behind [MENTION=11816]Artie Fufkin[/MENTION] and "JT" - sorry don't know your username if you do use NSC.

It's slightly annoying that the app version of Strava doesn't show the elevation weekly leaderboard that is on the desktop version, as I probably have a better chance with that (I "won" last week with 5,030 feet of hills)!

My only current target is to get to 1,000 miles before the end of April. Last year it took me to mid-July to reach that number. I'm well on target for that - I'm averaging a shade over 9 miles/day to date this year - so this week I'm taking it deliberately easy. Shorter runs and slower pace should give my legs a bit of recovery time before pushing on next week.

Really disappointed when I started reading that but more cheerful when I got to the downwind part. Good speed form running doing that. The legs are running at a higher rate than usual with a bit of help. I've already planned a downwind 3X1 mile tempo session this afternoon.

Historically I’ve been an ASICS fan boy always picking up the previous years top of the range models for £70-80 but can’t stretch that far now so needs to be around the £50 mark which I know is a tough ask for proper quality.

I typically run 25-30km a week so it has to be more than an entry level. Anyone got any tips or voucher codes etc?!

Fantastic effort, GNT. I went in the other direction along Shoreham Beach this morning, but only for about half a mile. That was more than enough for me. Although yesterday I did get blown up Truleigh Hill (fnarr fnarr) and ended up one second off my best time on the Mill/Truleigh Hill out and back Strava segment...

Sorry to hear that Rob. Need to get the frozen peas on it every few hours and get some ibuprofen down you. Now you’re an elite athlete it’s to be expected.

Gotcha.

Your timing is slightly off unfortunately as Nike have just finished their latest sale of a sale (20% off stuff already on sale). I picked up some Terra Kiger 6s for about £55 and I’m really enjoying them already.

The Peg Trail 2s and Wildhorse 6s also serve me well on my trail runs that always include a bit of road, so if you can hunt them down at a good price they could suit your needs.

It’s such a shame that Keller Sports have stopped shipping to the U.K. as they were often so well priced on decent and current models.

I think I've mentioned the legendary running coach Dr. Jack Daniels before but he explains the benefits of easy running here. I listen, make notes and try to absorb pretty much everything he says in the videos from his running lectures about the Principles of Training available on YouTube. His book Daniels' Running Formula is The Don of distance running training books that I turn to all the time.

Nice work Bozza!

Running on undulating up and down routes is brilliant aerobic work and a great opportunity to run to effort and definitely not worry about "pace". I think perceived rate of effort is far more important than "pace" for pretty much the majority of our running.

Mrs GNT bought some from Aldi a while back. They were cheap as chips (under £20 I think) and amazingly lightweight. I can't personally vouch for the quality (of the trainers, not of Mrs GNT) but she's had no probs with them at all. (But she's an 11 minute miler*.)

*she was a 4 minute miler before she started wearing these!

BTW, does anyone here remember a Worthing runner called Matt Dumigan? Matt won the Brighton HM a few years back and was a 14.31 5k runner. He disappeared from the scene a while back (he's only 33 - so sad that injury ruined a great running CV) but was enticed out for a 5k by GNT junior. Anyway he's still pretty fit but in a different way - from under 9 stone at his best he's now north of 13, having bulked up. He still managed a sub 21 5k on the back of almost no running.
Arguably Matt was the best distance runner to come out of Worthing and is a good lad.

Ice Ice baby. Plus ibuprofen. Take it easy when you come back as your calf will prob feel quite tight.
