Belting start to the New Year from a running perspective for me - 18:30 and 18:29 respectively by my watch. We'll see what the official times were - potentially 18:30 for the pair which would be very decent. Hove Park required a significant sprint finish, a guy I thought might be big nuts was coming up behind me so I put my foot down and hammered it home. I would have taken a few out on the Prom if I wasn't thinking about Hove Park to come. I am surprised I was so comfortably sub 19 for the pair, after the hilly 35 miles on the bike yesterday, but I'm carrying form and fitness into the year.

It also extends my consecutive sub 19 streak to 7. :albion2:

That’s a superb effort. No chance today of me being too close this morning. Polished off 3 bottles of red with the missus last night and whilst a post midnight Barrocca helped the amount of cheese and chocolates on top meant I took it reasonably easy. Still a SB with 19:22 unofficial.

I'm crocked.

Turns out 38 miles in under 48 hours was too much for my Weetabix legs and my right Achilles is very, very sore. When will I learn about overdoing it?

I've not had any issues that far down my legs before - I've read a few bits and pieces but I'm going to rest it as much as I can for a few days and see what happens.

Running has a habit of kicking you in the bollxxxs when you are on a high and least expecting it. Be careful and don’t forget to warm down/stretch/roll.

I don’t like to be smug but......

Touche!

It does feel somewhat ironic that one of my NY resolutions is to be more considered about stuff before and after each run (in fact after my 10 mile road run on Monday, I did jog a very slow mile to cool down), but I'm stuffed at the outset from my last run of 2019!

Did the triple :
Hove Prom parkrun
Hove Park parkrun
And then made it in time for KO

Probably the biggest events they’ve had so far (had to be 800+ for both) and lots of bespoke organisation and funnelling.

I did (in Park Run money ... not Strava!) a 25.11 PB on the Prom . A slower 26.18 in the park - perhaps cos of the waves of people at the start - strava had me close to Prom pace.

What good races they were though and park run goes from strength to strength. Lovely idea to schedule double ups on NYD

PS: the AliJ show wasn’t bad either.

Ran my first ever park run this morning down at Hove Prom. Was a really well organised, thoroughly enjoyable, event. Perfect conditions for running too. Came in at 19:33 (66.07%AG) which I was pleased with after the night before. Hats off to those who did the double.

Doubled up for 21:47/22:33 - held up at the start by the crowds at Hove Park, so overall pretty even for the two runs. Then cycled home/shower/cycled to Amex/cycled home and slept most of the rest of the afternoon. Good to see various members of the NSC contingent at both events or for coffee in between (@soistes).

Both parkruns brilliantly organised and successful - I can tell you there was a lot of stress in the core teams and both events only went ahead after a lot of consideration earlier this year - hats off to the volunteers who make this happen.

Well done to everyone who was able to make it out for a New Year's Day run, great efforts all round, especially to the double parkrunners!

Happy with a 17:30 (79.14% AG), just holding on to 1st place at Cassiobury's New Year's Day parkrun (Watford). They had 700 participants which is a bumper attendance which was great but made it tricky with weaving on the 2nd and 3rd loops of the park's narrow path. Felt comfortable midway through so decided to try to bridge the gap to a group of 3 leaders. Then decided to take the lead with 1km to go. One of the guys stayed with me so it was fun to duke it out with him all the way to the finish funnel. I managed to stay in front to hold onto 1st but we both got 17:30. Great fun!

Happy new year to the best thread on NSC!

A quick reflection on my 2019 running year saw me check out with 1201 miles. I nursed a minor groin niggle for most of December so a combination of slow 'jog with dog' got me over my last remaining target of averaging 100 miles a month which smashed my previous annual best of 865 in 2018. With PB's thrown in for 5K, 10K, half & marathon in 2019, it was one of my better years :)

After a light running December with combined birthday and Christmas excess I'm now short on fitness and a stone overweight, time to get back on it and see what we can do in 2020 - happy running folks...

Fantastic year - great running.

1203 miles for me but no PBs except at age grade. Hopefully I can reel a couple of time PBs in for half and fulll marathon in Feb and April respectively. Though I will target a minimum mileage of 1200 for the year again it's those two milestones that I really want. Started the year off with a gentle five miler on the front this morning. Runners everywhere.

I run in the Hoka One One Carbon X for races at 10k or below. Works really well for me.

https://www.runningshoesguru.com/2019/07/hoka-one-one-carbon-x-review/

Think I'll buy a pair. Did you find them anywhere local?

Nike Next% - Expensive but I'd go as far as saying 5k (or other race) PB guaranteed

Thanks, would certainly like a pair. £239 is expensive. Any tips on finding them cheaper. I've googled endlessly but to no avail.

I decided to join in with the NYD double madness! I was pleased with 24.04 at Hove Prom, held up in the first mile due to the 833 runners, my first mile was 20 seconds slower than my last! I then walked up to Hove Park and struggled in at 26.25, the start was very slow with 859 runners and my legs protested all the way round the third lap. Both events were brilliantly organised and my times were spot on, so hats off for all that where involved. Even with the queue for tokens and then scanning I was in my car at 11.14 and parked up in Falmer at 11.31!

BTW I also did my first ever Christmas Day PR at Preston Park, an amazing 867 runners, it was a great atmosphere, really enjoyed it.

I clocked in with 1,305 miles for 2019 (mainly due to the Ultra training), haven't decided on a target for 2020 yet! I hope to do a few more Parkruns as its nice to push the pace compared to marathon training. I have now notched up 45 park runs in 20 different locations. I hope to make that 21 on Saturday as plan to head to Seaford. My main goal for the year (as mentioned a few times before) is a sub4 marathon, all my training is geared towards Manchester on the 5th April.

Happy New Year all, lets stay injury free and fingers crossed for a year of PBs and a year of FUN!

Really good to see some new names coming on board. :clap2:

I'm going to properly begin training for my sub-3 marathon attempt from Monday (giving me the next few days to come up with a plan), which I'll be training for in parralel with the cycle to Norwich. I think that the cross training will be really useful if I'm able to still get in the running miles that I want to. I'm going to do plenty of gym work to underpin the whole thing. I'm hoping that getting into training for these events will re-add a bit of focus to my life, I've been drifting a bit recently so I want to get back into training with a clear outcome in mind.

Once April is out of the way, I'm going to refocus on 5k and 10k distances, I want to try and close the door on the Elites in our table this year.

Mrs FP conquered her 1st Park Run yesterday down in Seaford with our two boys and, although she found it really tough going, she still managed to do a sub 40 - and wasn't last! To see her out there completing a 5k after losing 10st in 2019 - & battling health problems for years - was one of my proudest moments in 20 years together. She broke down in tears at the end through sheer emotion, but will be back to do the Peacehaven run on Saturday morning if she isnt working at the hospital!

So proud of her.
