I tried to get a longer stride once but didn’t get anywhere. Badger seems to be text book from what I’ve read on the subject. If the stride is too long the body wastes energy braking before springing off again.

We have a guy who does the Chi or bognor parkrun in west west sussex who bounds along like a lamb and he is in his 40s and apparently going for a record of 100 race wins apparently. He has amazing spring, I think he has always done running, must be some sort of muscle memory.

I think i will keep up with the stretches and see If i can open my lenght up without wearing the brakes out!

Probably James Baker. Been around for a long time and has been remarkably consistent. Tends to stay in West Sussex/Hampshire. Top runner - did 16 something at Bognor (tricky course) while I laboured through 22 something.

If you want to see my little strides, here's a video of me finishing Ragnar (I'm the one at the front who almost dies after crossing the line)

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/neublqqfijaoprd/AACN2wuMMziAoeSuizpx4c7la?dl=0&fbclid=IwAR2hspdVrSVM7ASAqtM3y5MMf_M-5fuvhyuyIwqsR4lYfE8SmNqpfbDYjpg&preview=RunningOnEthanol-Finish01.mp4

That's great!
I think you are probably a few years younger than me and I would guess my style Is similar though, so all I need to do Is pick up the speed now!
So how long can I stay in the red heart zone for % wise that is safe but increasing my vo2?

Weakest Link Team Time for 2 weeks tomorrow. The following 5 are definite.

From last year we miss deletebeepbeepbeepbeep hope your swimming is going well. dazzer6666
can’t make it. I can’t commit until nearer the date due to this annoying tendon issue.
From last year Simgull (guaranteed a NSC team this year), Mr Banana Pennys Harmonica The Complete Badger need to sign up for this year.

soistes @GNT anyone I have missed and any lurkers need to sign up if interested.

This year it’s first come first served. So get your name down. Next 3 guaranteed a team. Places up for grabs in a weakened Super Ego’s team.

Hey mate, I can do this if required. Not very quick, though, and on lack of sleep

Should all go for a beer after this year if we do it

Sorry I’m out. I thought it was the 12th and ended up agreeing to attend a work event on the 19th.

knocky1 I’m afraid I won’t be available for selection for this year’s Weakest Link.

My first child was born a couple of months ago and I haven’t been able to run at all recently, apart from three or four very slow parkruns that I’ve just done to get out the house. I’m in no shape to think about doing anything speedy at the moment. Even if I had the time, I haven’t got the energy.

I’m hoping the little one is over the worst of the sleepless nights and generally needy behaviour and I’ll be able to get into some sort of running routine again over the next few weeks. But for now, I’ll have to wish you all luck and hope to see you again at a local parkrun soon. I’ll be the 25 minute man blowing out of my arse.

Congratulations and sympathy. See you buggy running soon.

You've just added strength to the A-Team.

Nothing to do with my shambolic team selection last year I hope. Thanks for letting me know.
Garry Nelson's teacher I have you and son inked in and the +1 other on standby whilst awaiting to see if we can make a third team.

Still waiting on soistes and penny's harmonica for the Weakest Link Relays Wednesday 19th June 6.30pm. Still a place up for grabs in the elite team.

Although much shorter than the Ultras it has always been my belief that my failure to succeed above half a marathon is down to my metabolism. I can burn calories fast sitting on my arse or even sleeping and have to really work on eating constantly throughout the day. I wanted to eat half way through a swim yesterday.

Verdict; good middle distance stamina but strongly lacking in endurance.

Sorry but I don't think I can make it (again) - I'm in London that day, and looking at timing, don't think I can guarantee to get back in time for the race - so rather than let a team down, better not to sign up. In any case, I've been seriously off the pace since VMLM which seems to have turned my quads to jelly, so I'm probably not much use to any team for a while.

Yeah, congrats TCB – it WILL get better/easier, but best not to burn yourself out. You might not think it, but it be long before they are running alongside you at parkrun...

As a slight aside, I ran my first marathon the year before our first child – didn't run another one for 10 years! Not just because of becoming a Dad, obvs, but that was one of the main reasons!

My cousin (Albion STH) will run. He’s around the 21 minute mark for a 5k at the moment

Thanks I’m away till Monday so will look at what we have then and try and set 3 teams.

My injury has improved and is now just soreness under outer ankle bone. I’m going to try an easy Parkrun on Saturday, shame as I was set for a top ten finish. Even now a walk in the park and last place would see me finish inside 70th in the Oslo run. After that I’ll assess my chances for the Weakest Link. Really enjoyed the sea for last 2 weeks, feeling fairly fit and almost glad I got the running injury.

Sorry to hear this. I was expecting a fierce 3 way battle of the old gits (you, gaffer, me) for the AG (Old Git Category) Prize. Plenty of time left in the year, but in various ways we've been crocked recently. All the best...……………..

I’m in. Having knee issues but nothing that will prevent me taking part. Shunt me in wherever needed, enjoyed it last year and hope to stick around for beer after.
