So chuffed with a 10 mile PB in Bright10. Rest of the year was shit.

At Hove Prom tomorrow to baseline my speeds for marathon training. At a family party right now and have a dodgy neck & shoulder. Baseline might be iffy.

Happy Xmas & New Year to all I don’t see in the next few days. This thread is superb.

Coach said "flat" and as Dazzer will tell you, you don't argue :lolol:

It's my last chnce to post an SB and get ahead of Mr Blobby in the table. I will, however, be carrying round a bottle and a half of good Spanish red :nono:

Going to wait for official results but an unofficial SB of 23.07 for me on the prom. Which would normally delight me except that:

a) I got chicked
b) I got beaten by one of my son's under 12 football team mates, a child I was coaching two years ago*

*not quite as bad as it seems as said kid runs for the school at cross country and is comfortably sub 21 on best form. I played him as a wing back in 7 a side. He was superb at it.

Very proud of my fellow Lancing Beach Green park runners. During the welcome for tourists & the usual clap for people from far & wide, one lady runner proudly shouted she was from Crystal Palace. This was greeted by a loud boo followed by much laughter.

Hope you have it Officially.

Under 12 boys are starting to get nasty!!

Wing backs have that inner stamina, so I like to think!

When my son who is under 12 pipped an adult on the line at a parkrun, it was caught on camera, and his face said it all!

Sat behind Simgull at Hove Park today happily biding my time. Unfortunately I was unable to make up the deficit and stayed sat 30 seconds behind. Looks touch and go whether the watch will give him a SB of 21:28.

Not quite, 21:37. A good run though and maybe if I’d started nearer the front I would have got an SB. Pleased with that and if weather is good on Saturday may look for a flatter run.

Conditions a bit better than last week ?? [emoji23][emoji23]

I have to say Prom conditions yesterday were excellent.

What you two were doing there the week before I'm not sure - except that when I was checking the results page I also saw last week's and guess who were both in the top 20? :lolol:

I am about to go and recreate some of that wet and windy misery with a pre-breakfast 11 mile plod. I'm sure it will all be worth it come April

You would have lost a good 10 seconds at the start as the new taped in start is a bottle neck. A flat course and starting nearer the line should see you end the year with a SB. Weather looking OK too.

Ignoring the 10% rule I just set off on a 10 miler. First run over 5K in 2 months. I also ignored my rule of running the first half into the wind before turning.
End result had to stop at 9 miles and walk ................this trekking lark doesn't seem to have done much good. Lot of hard work needed.

10.8 miles on the BTRS trail number 3. Mostly off road starting at the marina up to the race hill then into the valley near Woodingdean, up the snake and back to the start.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3241927283

Really good run but the course was incredibly wet, not surprisingly after the amount of recent rain.

If anyone here fancies a long run next week (15.6 miles) the BTRS trail 4 is another off-road along cliff top again from the marina to Newhaven and back.

It's a good route and a good way of getting your miles up before the year ends.

32k (20 miles) for me this morning. A nice day for it; cold at around freezing; but very little wind and just the slightest bit of snow in the air.

Every time I do a long run on my own I'm useless at pacing myself. I set off with the aim of keeping a 4:40-4:45 per km pace. My first km was 4:42, so I thought I was going to keep to that for the whole run. Nope, that ended up being one of only two km which were slower than 4:40 and I ended up with an average of 4:30 :lolol: I blame other people running along the lake front, I see a target and have to take it.

Anyway, despite being a bit faster than I was planning, it was a great run and I felt good the whole way. I'm just aware that I don't want to push it too much on a long run and not be able to get the recovery in for the next week.

I assume other people have this problem? I know some of my running friends either do the same as me or go completely the other way and end being much slower or don't reach the distance when they run alone.

I’m running to a coached and structured plan for Brighton Marathon 2019. It’s mostly based on timed runs and I can’t get the hang of it at all. Today was supposed to be 1hr 50 and around 11 miles. I ran 1.46 for 10.3 miles on legs that had been absolutely beasted by yesterday’s parkrun. It was chucking with rain when I started and the police were nicking a drunk and incapable by the Marina that meant an early 180 and that was my plan screwed. I know every mile marker from my house to Rottingdean and back but timed runs totally throw me.

However, if I’m heading home and there’s a viable “target” in view it speeds me up no end. The target usually turns out to be a septuagenarian hiker though.
