Welcome to the 60+ club. I think there's now just the 3 of us, although knocky1 seems to be forever 55-59.

15 more months to go. 55-59 is an enjoyable jog not a race.

490 mile for me this year. Second highest tally to 2016.

Calf recovered on Sunday and just went straight into 5 X 600m intervals on the seafront this morning. After 2 weeks out hard to get over 7" mile pace a good 30-40 seconds down on interval pace. Hope to find a bit more for the big showdown at Bewl Water Sprint Tri on August 5th.

It passes virtually unnoticed........BUT you get into a new age cat in races :) With your speed you'll be age cat winner at parkrun every time :clap2::clap2:

If it's Hove Park he'll have to rely on Graham Godden 16:30 (89.39% AG) and a few other Brighton Athletics Club runners reaching 55 by then!

It's definitely the club to be in :), and all the competition then focuses on AG at 5k, rather than bothering about times per se.

I still run specific races to beat as many as posssible, especially from here. Lucky I'm a good loser..........

The worst place to be is at the back end of your age cat (or front end depending on perspective). In my first 2 or 3 years in the 60 category it was happy days. But when you get nearer the 64 mark you get the double-whammy of

a) slowing down (usually injury related)

b) 'young bucks' of 59 (!) clicking into their 60s and showing you a clean pair of heals.

But at least AG is specific to your age, not just category. In fact the first thing I do when the parkrun results come is to hit the button that re-configures placing into AG positions. sad but true!

I’m in week 2 of couch to 5k.. struggling a little bit but really determined to see it through.. I am actually looking forward to my running days which is something I never thought I would ever say.

Picking a middle of a heat wave to start running - not surprised you're struggling a bit! Keep at though, and post on here with any questions as there's always someone who's been there, done that.

Give it a couple of months and you're be ParkRunning on a saturday morning and flying up our league table.

Bloody Worthing!
I'll be joining you in February

Welcome: 'sing if you're proud to be grey'...…………..

PS I popped into Maldon a couple of weeks back. Didn't do your parkrun (went up to Great Notley as I wanted a 'G' for my parkrun alphabet project (!)). Maldon looks a quirky sort of place; the harbour is really nice and I guess you do the parkrun around that bloody great park next to it. Looks very flat!

I was very impressed that you had a punch-up with the Vikings well before our Hastings boys went down to a narrow defeat to the Normans.

I ran at 7pm last night and it was 28c on the Worth Way! Not ideal running conditions at all, we all took it easy and everyone had plenty of water with them. I cannot wait for it to cool down. My next run was supposed to be Thursday but the forecast is now for 29c at 7pm but feeling like 34c. I am not sure I want to be out in that!!

As others have said, you will soon be addicted to running! I am still loving it and have for the last 2/3 years. Think its my midlife crisis which has turned into a running marathons obsession!!!

Yup, that's where our parkrun is. It does have more elevation than Notley, it's just that our elevation is spread around the course, rather than all in one silly man-made hill.

I was very impressed that you had a punch-up with the Vikings well before our Hastings boys went down to a narrow defeat to the Normans.

Nothing to do with me, I'm a Sussex boy!
I do find it amusing that they built a statue to Brythnoth, the Saxon that didn't defend the town against the vikings. It certainly gets a mention when I do the first timers briefing.

Just back home from a scenic 10 miler, taking in the downs and the sea front. I had played a bit of football and rounders at a summer party this afternoon, so I wasn't in the best condition to be running at speed so I slowed it all down and I had a WC emergency at 3.5ish miles which required a re-route and dash down to PACA's sports centre. :lolol:

I am 6th in the league table now, that needs to be corrected. And soon.

Thanks, I know you’re right!

I haven’t run since Sunday (and even that was only a slow plod) and my feet are feeling a lot better. If Saturday was 100% pain, I’d say I’m down to about 20% now. When it is down to 0% and Walking has been entirely comfortable today for the first time in a while. Then I'll do cross training for a few weeks to take weight off the feet, after I’m tempted to do a few slow KMs if I make further improvement just to see how I am. Then it’s an off-the-pace parkrun at 22-24" on a Saturday to get me back into it.

What I really DO NOT need to do is sign up for a race to set my sights on something but I’ve got nothing lined up. I might have to join the Bright10 crowd.

Glad you're recovering! I've edited your post....

Yes, that hill at Great Notley is a bit of a bummer. I'm assuming there's a sadist in the team that designed the event as I suspect it would be quite easy to find a 5k course without it! I like the idea of a parkrun briefing that is so historically literate!
