Runners... I haven't been running in a while, but I have found a barrier to getting back into it. I've always used Asics shoes, I'm quite flat-footed, size 13 and, to top things off, have wide feet. The Asics GT2000 series (and predecessors) have been brilliant for years. Asics now seem to have changed their sizing to a more skinny-fit, and I'm really struggling to find sub £100 shoes (for a wide fit, size 13, overpronator) that actually fit.

Any suggestions?

Notice plenty of 13 options on here......these for example (I've also worn these in the past)

I wear ASICS but only buy online through the Sweatshop when they have a sale on (they are quite regular). The last lot I got cost me £70, usualy price £140. The online shop definitely has more bargains and sales than the actual shop in Brighton.

It does seem an odd route for an 'Edinburgh' marathon. Only about three miles of it actually seems to be in Edinburgh. I have read similar comments to yours about the route, the finish and the transport, but I'm foolishly putting that to the back of my mind for now as I've never been to Edinburgh but always quite fancied it. My only aim for the race will be to finish it, so the fact you've suggested it has PB potential will obviously help me do that. However, I'm looking for another marathon for late summer to sign up to now so that the focus for Edinburgh can simply be on getting round the 42km and then I can have a shot at a more respectable time on my second try.

I wouldn't be so sure, I don't think I've done a hilly run since that day at Bevendean so I reckon I'd still be second best around a course like that. We should get another NSC Parkrun in the diary for early 2018 while there is plenty of new year motivation/optimism in the air.

Sorry, realise I came across a bit negative. It’s just not the most inspiring of routes and the admin is shite.......absolutely cracking city to spend a few days in though, lots to see and do, so easy to get around etc and tons of good pubs. Your recovery walk the day after the marathon should be up to Arthur’s Seat [emoji106]

Not at all, you didn't say anything worse than I'd already read before I signed up. For such a huge event it sounds like it is utterly shambolic. And I already know that when I cross the finish line I'll be seriously hacked off at being 8 miles outside Edinburgh with a limited transport system to get me back. I've just chosen to overlook it all because the course is relatively flat (vital for my first attempt) and I've always fancied going to Edinburgh (making it much easier to win the approval of the wife over somewhere we've been before).

Any good recommendations for a September/October marathon that I could use to focus more on time?

It’s a fantastic city, I love it. If it’s simply a time you’re after, could do worse than look at some of the Phoenix Running, Saxons, Normans and Vikings or Enigma Running events - all three companies have loads of events (pretty much every week so loads of choice) on generally flat (usually multiple lap/out and back) courses....or you could wait until November of course and join the Velothon madness in Preston Park[emoji106][emoji106][emoji23][emoji23]

More traditionally, Abingdon is well known as fast, along with Manchester but not sure when they are (when they measure the course correctly anyway). Paging @Steve Foster who will no doubt have other recommendations.........

Clair Park second half of January? A few park runners are still to do it.

Bath Half coming round again and slightly earlier this year.

i'm doing ok and feel fitter than before but need a decent 10 week training plan - any tips?

i ran 1:40:52 last year and must get a sub 1:40 this time round. So far furthest i've done is 13k and doing a 10k each week, current best is 45:50.

Berlin (probably full), Budapest, Warsaw, Lisbon, Tallin all in that time frame. I have my eye on Dingle - not the fastest route but sounds like a tremendous weekend.

A first for me tonight, I ran a track session with a local club in Halifax where I’m currently working.

Very good fun but hard work as ran 12 250 metre sprints with 150 metre jogs back.

Would definitely like to do this again as it would really boost my pace for shorter distances.

There are open sessions on Thursday nights at Hove Park for this kind of thing – run by some of the parkrun regulars, I believe. I've never been, but told myself I should go along.

2018 plan was marathon training for Brighton Marathon, followed by a second attempt at the Three Forts Challenge and Triathlon training for Bewl in August.

Had a slight change of mind. Three Forts cancelled for the Moyleman on 18th March. Clashes with the Hasting's Half but the finish line pint of Harvey's settled it. Entries already exceeding race limit so sign up quickly, if interested.

5k times will be sacrificed till the summer as endurance and strength dominate the training.

Moyleman was described by the Race Director himself as ‘a right bastard’.

He was correct.

Great! See you there. I did it last year and picked up an injury half way around. Great race but as Dazzer says – it's tough. Beer and pizza at the end more than made up for it though.

Without being a 'run-pusher', why is it either/or for this and Three Forts? The latter is in April, isn't it – after the Brighton/London maras? Surely you could do both?

At the risk of sounding like Dr No – No.

I'm struggling to get sub-22, let alone anywhere near by 2017 PB. Christmas outfit won't help get it this morning, either!

Do the league positions stipulate the teams in the relay in the summer? Might try for PB on 30th, to see if can jump ahead of Greg bobkin or as predictive text suggested Greg Bonking

The long distance training is a winter endurance plan. I want to switch to a 5k and 10k 12 week plan early May and increase the cycling and swimming.

Need to get ready for The Weakest Link Relay and the Phoenix 10k!

Steyning Stinger could be another option....? No beer, but a full English at the finish. Can also start earlier (when you want) and very social.
