I did a 10 mile race once in 1995 in Riyadh. Would have been a good time but have no idea what it was. Good work Ninja. Hope you don't mind me fiddling with YOUR table.

It's not as bad as it looks, the table. It's just a lot of coding!

How did you end up running a 10 miler in Saudi Arabia?!

It's definitely reminding me I need to crank up the pace over that length. :lolol:

I did a 10 miler this morning, I read an article in the Runners World saying that if you're doing a steady sunday run to mix it up by running the first 3 miles at casual pace, then running 4 at faster pace, and then the final 3 at a slower speed again. It happened to be those 4 miles coincided with the hills on today's run but I managed to just about hit the session;
9:09. 9:13, 9:19; 8:06, 8:10, 8:07, 7:30; 8:52, 9:41, 9:23

Also, the Belgian fella I mentioned before, ran the South Coast Half in 1:25:12 - 4th overall. Crazy pace - once I've got [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] and [MENTION=67]Curious Orange[/MENTION] in my pocket over 5k, this guy is my next target! (@Capricorn I'll leave alone, for now!)

1:06:45 best 10 mile time. Aiming for sub 65 at Bright 10 in October if conditions are kind.

How did you end up running a 10 miler in Saudi Arabia?!

2 years teaching contract in their top Private School. Nearest I've got to full time work. It was awful. 2 and half hours work a day plus 3 hours drinking tea in the staff room. Home by 12:30 everyday at latest. Fully paid holidays of 22 weeks a year!

Plenty of time for swimming a mile everyday and running with the Hash House Harriers and Riyadh Road Runners. My 17:45 5k PB came after a 400m swim as it was part of an Aquathlon. I was winning all the way round with a bloke sat in behind me. He took me on the line.

1:06:45 best 10 mile time. Aiming for sub 65 at Bright 10 in October if conditions are kind.

As it's raining I'm getting up in the attic to see if I can find any run results from 1995. I'm sure I wasn't near 6:30 mile pace anyway.
I remember drinking at a party till 1am and getting up at 5am for the run but that was par for the course.

If you go the GP route get your story right. Tell them how much it's interfering with your everyday life and it's hard to do any exercise which is getting you down. Don't say it's a problem from running as they'll tell you to rest for a few months. It must be worth trying to get an x-ray and physio, if possible.

The NHS won't look into my achilles as they say it's degenerative and I shouldn't expect to be able to run at my age. They are wrong on both counts. I'll be back.......Good luck.

I had a similar experience with my GP when I went and explained a running injury. He literally said to me the NHS wasn't there to help people run marathons.

Down from the attic. Looks like I didn't run over 8 miles until I was 50 and have never done a 10 mile race. :drink::drink::drink:

Think Ninja should add a 2k run to his table. Found a 6:22 2km time after a 400m swim. Veteran runner at the time.

I was going to have a bash at the table but decided there might be times I missed from others so I will bottle out. Unsurprisingly my times are all rather slow, which is what you get for waiting until your 40s to do any exercise and wrecking your already damaged knee, which is why I spread the exercise around by doing triathlons instead. So: 10K - 57:32 Arundel 2013, HM 02:07:07 Bristol 2008, M 5:46:02 Three Forts 2017.

The first attempt to get the knee 'fixed' involved digging in to tidy up the cartilage but that was really only temporary. The following time I was sent for physio and that was what has kept me doing any sort of running. I have strengthening exercises designed to protect the knee from further significant damage. I also had a course of acupuncture to release tension in the muscles - that was superb.

Please add times of 10k 47:19 and HM 1:47:22 for me.
They won't be changing any time soon, as I've done something nasty to a metatarsal - not been able to run for the last week and I'm still waiting to find out if it's just tendon damage (as I hope) or the dreaded stress fracture (having had one before I really hope it's not that). Meantime, it's back to the tedious cross training in the gym to try and keep up my cardiovascular fitness. I'd been hoping to run the Barns Green half in three weeks, but that's looking very unlikely now.

Thanks. A sub-1:40 is about 4:45/km which I couldn't hold over that distance right now, but with more experience I'm confident I could do. That is going straight on my list of goals for 2018.



Great stuff, well done. I was very lucky with conditions - warm, clear and no wind - so I'd call it a draw! We were both talking about 1:50+ last week so to come out of it in the 1:40s is excellent all round.

The only thing that's ruined my day a little is that I can't find any local(ish) HMs towards the end of this year, so Brighton in February might be the next opportunity. I like the look of Barns Green but at three weeks from now it's just a bit too soon.

However, NSC house rules are pretty strict and the simple fact is that it's all about times across the finishing line (other than AGs - on which I'm particularly keen!). If you are shopping around for another half have a look at the link. The timing (October), location (up country East Sussex), and terrain (hilly) might not fit your current needs but it could be spot-on. I'm toying with doing an entry on the day. Looking at previous results it looks like a very small scale event (or 2 events as there's a combined half and full marathon).

Being away, logged out of NSC without a password and out of decent Wi-Fi was quite a bonus during the Transfer Window shenanigans, but I've missed this thread. Sadly where I was on the IOW wasn't up to the type of routes for the marathon there – lots of roads with no pavements and main roads, but I managed a few runs – and Ryde parkrun was great fun too. Lovely course but tough going for Jnr Bobkin, who is fast becoming the opposite of his old man – three parkruns, three different locations!

Loving the new table – my missing results are: 10k: 42mins; 10 miles: 1:13; HM: 1:39; Marathon: 3:57
