Some great runs today then - well done NSC. I headed out early and ran 14.1 miles, including some of the HM course. A lot of PBs I've seen - like [MENTION=6886]Bozza[/MENTION], makes ME think 'what if?' after a PB on Worthing.

But I look forward, not back. Time to focus on existing races, maybe think about Brighton next year - and others.

Ain't running GREAT?

Almost perfect conditions today for the half, really enjoyed it and also smashed a PB in 1:35:30! Only slightly frustrating part was the first couple of miles due to mass of runners! A lot of it was due to a lot of runners starting in the wrong starting areas I think but probably not their fault as it was mobbed at the start! Apart from that a great event and hats off to the volunteers!! Moyle Man Marathon next!

I had a bad day at the office. Compared to you lot 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner' by Alan Sillitoe springs to mind. Decided to do 20 miles with the hills [MENTION=26634]Simgull[/MENTION] did. Big mistake as I started to climb from the Adur to Truleigh Hill I had to walk :tosser: and as the North East wind started blowing rain into my face I felt the need for a cuddle to stop me from crying. I battled onto the Dyke with more little walks and then the sun came out and it was all downhill from there. Disappointed but good to get 3 hours 25 (10-15 mins over) into the legs and already on the wine. Tomorrow last drinking day for 3 weeks so will meet up after game in the bar North end of Lower West to wet @Guiness Boy's half marathon.

Waaaay too hard on yourself. Seriously. Almost no-one I know runs up Truleigh, and there are several walkie bits between there and the Dyke. The NE wind this morning was a sod - I went East from the Windmills at Clayton and it was tough. I am always happy with 10 min miling around there. Great mileage and good conditioning on the hills.

Would love to join you for a quickie on MY concourse tomorrow but me and junior have got early starts Tuesday so will probably shoot for the train after the whistle.......

Agree about the conditions. Cold but no wind. Knocked 6 minutes off my time from last year and a new PB too so was delighted with 1:51.

To make matters better Mrs EP has said I can run another marathon IF I can get my weight below 14 stone. Don't think I've been there since 1992 but it's a huge carrot.

Still buzzing driving back to Manchester. I feel sub 1:50 may now be feasible especially if I'm carrying 25 lbs less around my midriff.

5 seconds per pound per mile I was told. You do the maths [emoji3]

About 6 years ago, my first BHM it was raining and windy and the start and finish were both congested. Lots of pushing at start then people cutting over PP roundabout and sprinting to St. Peter's church to make up lost time (me, the know it all distance runner included!). By the time I reached palace pier I was f***** facing the long westerly run to the lagoon. At the finish people were pushing to get through the static crowd building up before the finish line. It seems things have improved.

Well done to all today - some impressive times.

Congratulations to all who ran BHM some great times and good to see so many pb's. I'm going to have to be content with Eastbourne HM on Sunday as away till Friday. Everyone has set the bar high but if I come in under 1:50 I'll be happy.

One thing that did happen though was that when I got to the bottom of North Street, the entire run was made to stop for an ambulance that had to go through and I happened to be at the very front of the cut off point (hundreds had already cleared that point I certainly wasn't at the front of the race!) There was quite a gap before we were able to go again but I'm sure this would have had a knock on effect for all those behind.

I'm done and I imagine my contributions to this thread are also now over!. Thanks to all the advice and helpful words on here during the build up. It helped a complete novice get through a challenge he wouldn't have given himself a hope of in January!

Well done for battling through it. Stay on the thread though - how about the occasional parkrun ? Only 5k, free and always a few NSCers about.......

Well done - you've accomplished something that most people will never do (and that includes me). The love/hate thing is curious and part of the appeal for me and I experienced both on my run last night.

A niggling old injury must detract from things somewhat, but it's great you got around regardless.

Well done. It was good reading about your training nightmares on here. Glad you saw it through to the end. You've started where you left off though as 10k is a long way. As Dazzer says get some 5ks in instead for fitness. When you are ready, of course, it's rest and recovery now!

Aha, thanks for the info. My previous races have had much smaller numbers in, this was my first Brighton Half. In hindsight I whacked up a really decent time and now have some experience of racing in tight spots to use for the marathon so all good.

First of all, well done! It's a fantastic achievement, especially – as you point out – how far you've come in the past month.

Running certainly isn't for everyone - and long distance running is for even fewer – and I wouldn't dare keep on at anyone to do it. However, never say never - you never know when you might come back to it. I started running when I got a place for London 2003, but I've had time off (as much as a year) between then and now. Right now I love few things more than getting out for a run, but that doesn't mean that sometimes I absolutely HATE it! Maybe it is just a few metres in a run, but the feeling is still there.

But like you say, at least you know you CAN do it. Enjoy the rest, and feel free to carry on posting...

Well done, you should be proud of your achievement. It is something you can look back on and know that you have mental strength to do something once you put your mind to it. :)

I am now officially tapering for the Surrey Half, did my last long run of 11 miles in a fraction over 7 minute/mile pace - hopefully I'll go a bit quicker than that on the day. Shorter, slower runs from now on.

That's a fair old achievement. It'll be a shame (if understandable) if this experience puts you off running. Most people finish their first 'long' event with a 'never again'............and then they end up like most on this forum - totally addicted.
