Great day out! London really is unlike any other race isn't it? The noise, the support -so much goodwill in the air, the sights - I really didn't think much about the running. Absolutely delighted then to run 3:46:29. My fastest marathon since London 2016. As @knocky1 says, I had a bit of a niggle on Saturday - in fact my back was so bad I could hardly walk in the afternoon. Took lots of Paracetemol (NOT ibuprofen) and went bed thinking I was touch and go to run at all. Woke up feeling a bit stiff and then completely forgot about it during the run - the body is a strange thing!!
Set off at 8:30mins/mile and pretty much maintained the pace throughout even when it was quite tough running those last few miles into the cold wind on Victoria Embankment. Had a chat with the Sussex Emus at the end (@Guinness Boy Guy says you should call him!) Enjoyed a couple of pints in the pub afterwards and then home exhilarated.
Aching today but going to claim my free Franco Manca pizza later as part of my refuelling strategy .

Great marathon runs reported on here. 👏
I've had my regular spring calf issues as I attempt to step up pace BUT I think I've got to the bottom of it.
My non running muscles are VERY weak and non supportive.
I got in the gym for the first time in 10 years and it was a real eye opener. I could only do 3 hamstring curls on lowest weight available! (They usually go in June). All leg work was a struggle. Arm work ok thanks to swimming.
The treadmill had a nice give for my legs and building up to a few minutes at 5:45 mile pace gave me hope for the summer.
No wonder my legs break down, so a new CrossFit regime has begun in the gym along with the old codgers HIIT classes. No full out Parkruns in the meantime.

Fantastic efforts in London – I watched a bit of it before Bobkin Jnr's football and it really is inspirational stuff. Even though there are so many other raced to do, I'm back to understanding just why people hold THE marathon in such high regard.

Meanwhile, my running seems to have dropped off a cliff. I'm trying to get my head around being able to run a marathon on 17 March to not be able to do (up until this morning) more than five miles now. Logged nine this morning though, which was a nice little boost, but way down on what I could – and arguably should – be doing.

Any one doing the Worthing half tomorrow? I’m in the mix, although I had an op (day case) a week ago Friday. So will not be over doing it…. I have done a couple of shorter test runs this week 😀

well, when I turned up at the start it was horrible weather. Felt more like February than late April. Braved the a short sleeved shirt, but did wear my gloves. The new route is ok, but more u turns….. I managed 1.38.44 in the end when I thought 1.40 was wishful thinking. Pb is 1.38.19. But that was 6 years ago.

The weather actually turned out to be just about right!

1:37:39 for me which is a 5 minute PB from Brighton. Route is alright but there’s way too many hairpins to consider going for a time there again, if you ask me. Got Shoreham Port vibes out towards Goring too. Can't argue with how the weather turned out though.

A record number of people have applied to take part in the 2025 London Marathon.
Event organisers said more than 840,000 applications had been received, smashing the previous record of 578,000 set by last year's ballot.

Is this a debut for the WL at PP? Shame there's not the option of getting back to the Marina/Duke's Mound route – the original and still the best!

They want to return to Black Rock and will when they can.
Ah, I didn't realise there was still work going on there. Good news.

Managed a new PB round Preston Park on Saturday of 21:33. The previously absurd notion that I might one day break 20 minutes is becoming something that might actually be doable if I dedicate a training block to it. Maybe.
I'm coming with you! Sub 20 here we come.

Managed best Parkrun for 6 months and 2nd best in over a year with an easy 23:40 at Hove Park Saturday. Calf tightened again after 2.5 miles but it's better week by week.
Been treadmilling as calf survives on it. Calibration must be out as progressed up to 5 minute mile pace for a 1/4 mile yesterday on 1% incline.
Looking forward to Club 1500m at Withdean next Monday.

Bump this. I reckon we can get at least one team in June.
Bobkin, Willykins and knocky. Need more.....

Found myself having breakfast with @soistes on Friday at Saddlescombe. A ponytail (?) and now him being a Rogue Runner put me off the scent. I'll say hello next time! 👋

Managed my first 10k this morning, up to the YHA on the SDW and back. Was a bit of an effort, but pleasing that I didn't have to stop and walk for any of it. Two weeks in Mexico from Friday won't do anything to get the distances back up, though. Looks like I might have to brave the dreadmill for a few runs.
