Brilliant run from Jake W. Mind you he might be the best in the world but many would still rate being the record holder at Worthing parkrun his greatest achievement!
Well I'm a pile of manure and he ran past me pretty quickly!Wightman is good, but can he do the Mill Hill 10k on an already boiling hot Wednesday morning past a load of manure?
First run for me since Sunday, the new blue shoes are settling in nicely.
Tomorrow I have the final vets track league meeting of the season with an 800m. Next week I have entered an open one mile race at Cheltenham. I'll be aiming to beat our club V40 track record which is a rather soft 6:13 (the road record for V40 is 04:58). A long term goal will be sub-5 but I think at the moment I might have a chance at 5:10. I've really enjoyed my first track season, as I think I said after my very first meet, I highly recommend it. I realise now I never replied to Notters as I'd intended, but I remember before signing up with the athletics club for track sessions I thought they were serious/elite/closed shop, but I've found them really welcoming and encouraging of all standards.
Certainly glad the weather has sorted itself out, I did a 5K on Tuesday evening and although the temps had still dropped a lot it was still rather warm at 7:30pm (Garmin says 26C). I was 30s slower than the same event in June (which was also a relatively warm night) but I recorded a average HR of 180 and max of 188, both of which are 6-8 beats higher than normal!
Good to see the Gaffer at Hove Prom today even if he was a non combatant. Hope the hammy mends quickly, although they can be buggers. Anyway despite the heckling from the luxury of a beach hut ("go back to Worthing!") and being smoked by the resident old git maestro, an SB of 20.30 @83.33%, my all time PB. Please could you amend the table, Gaffer?

knocky1 can I get my 10k updated to 36:22 and age grading to 75.67% please
Wrexham 10k: 43.17 which for me was a decent time but only good enough for 5th very old git.
A good course and a very high quality field. Suspect it wasn't the brightest thing to do to run a fast 5k yesterday.
I meant to post this yesterday, but you went all the way to Wrexham for a 10k race? Fair play to you, GNT. I can barely make it past Worthing (or Brighton seafront) for one
And well done on the time – superb effort.
Ah, there's a reason. The Wrexham race was one of 4 qualifying races for a place in the England masters 10k squad in 2023. I thought I might have a slim chance depending on who else turned up: a top 3 placing guaranteed selection. The category was 65+. I managed 5th in the 65-69 category but 2 of these weren't registered for the masters. Plus I overtook the first 70 year old on the finish line (65+ included 70s). I had done it! An England vest! And then the results came out. It was chip timing and the guy I'd beaten on the line was 1 second faster than me. I missed out on selection by 1 second.
It was a long drive home from Wrexham!

Bugger. Shades of GB's Brighton marathon (nearly) sub-4 effort.
Do you get another shot?

Yes mate. Leeds (October), Telford (December), London (early in 2023).
