I found spikes OK but my Nike Zoom Pegasus seemed to sponge flat on the bouncy track surface. I've never worn my Vaporfly at Withdean. What did you wear? [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] ?

I tend to go for Saucony Endorphin Speed. A great all round shoe and quick.

Afterwards I learnt that technically anything over 25mm is not legal for track, which would rule out all the super shoes. In reality at the level of events I enter I don’t think it’s an issue. My in my own head it would put an * next to any times I set. So of course I went and got a pair of Nike Dragonfly, which is what I wore this week.

I’d only worn them once in training but there they seemed to perform well, with me completing reps faster relative to others in the group (eg finishing just ahead of someone that’d normally pip me) when I wore my standard shoe (Saucony Endorphin Speed 2).

They felt fine for 1500m and I’ll definitely wear them up to 3000m.

They look perfect for me. Won't get them for this year as behind on training and will stick with the Nike flat spikes for my 1500m at Lewes end of July. Be a good meet up for various NSC members that are in clubs.

Had a few hours spare in Eastbourne yesterday and ran 4 Half Mile intervals around Princes Park. Was disappointed with the average pace until I saw on Strava how much time I lost on the numerous 90 degree turns. Be a straight line distance next week.

Anybody doing Run Gatwick this morning? If so, I’m taking photographs. I’ll be on Bonnett’s Lane and, once it warms up, will be visible in the hyper turquoise away shirt (under the high vis, obvs).

At the risk of sounding like a broken RECORD,:rave::banana: I have done two more on my past 2 runs!


However not sure if they qualify as legit records???


My best VO2 was 49 and I have never been able to top that, however, 3 days ago I hit the 50, and today I hit a VO2 of 51.

Is this a true representation? as I have run 8 x 600m with 2 mins rest and today 8 x 600m with 90 secs rest?

I wondered if the rest period helped in recording the VO2 better.


Does anyone know?

Great to hear that it's being staged again and that volunteers to organise NSC have been drafted in. I'm a pretty bad bet to take part right now as the best I'm managing is to escort Mrs JB on her 6.40 per km runs. Anything 'quick' is currently flirting with injury. If I'm recovered by then I'll be up for it.

Of the Worthing contingent, GNT junior is crocked and Mark Jacques has moved out of Worthing - but might be up for it.

That session sounds brutal. I've found that club training sessions
are tougher than races. Indeed I've strained the hammy twice in such sessions!

Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) connects big toe to top of lower leg and Flexor Digitorum Longus (FDL) connects 4 small toes to top of lower leg.
As I have progressed this month to speed work and fore foot running my body has neglected the FHL on right leg and worked ony with the small toes FDL. Result was a calf twinge before Saturday's Parkrun and pulling up 400m into Monday's Withdean session.
No damage or long term problem but a few days strengthening the big toe and concentrating on full ground contact with the foot.
Good news as I'm starting to move up from 90% fitness.
Great flat track bully run on the Prom Saturday with a 29" time but crossing the line at 5:30 mile pace after leg had warmed up.
Hove Park hopefully on Saturday for first time in number of years, hope to see some of you I've neglected.

Lost a bit of momentum/mojo/time to run recently. Not sure if the two marathons were something to do with it, but I find myself only going for shorter runs and the enjoyment factor has dropped a little bit. Unfortunately, the counter is that the weight has crept back on so today is the start of another 'eat less (and less shite), move more' process.

Hove Park on Saturday seems like a good place to try and get back in the groove. Seeing the gaffer would be the cherry on the icing on the cake!

It was a case of ‘getting the band back together’ at Hove Park this morning with appearances by [MENTION=15605]knocky1[/MENTION], [MENTION=24635]Greg Bobkin[/MENTION], [MENTION=13055]Ninja Elephant[/MENTION] and [MENTION=3975]ben[/MENTION] Elton’s Brother. [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] you should have been there!

A set of atypical finishing times which may have been impacted by pacing, injury, turning up late and an impromptu ‘ who can finish last contest’. Will leave you to work out who’s time was influenced by these factors!
