Good, slightly belated, luck to those running Brighton today and special shout out to Ovingdean seagull and Curious Orange.

Not me Guv', I was thoroughly put off marathon running by last year's horrendous experience! :lolol:

It’s quite tricky for anyone to give specific advice…..the injury could be a number of things with a number of possible causes, and without an expert examination and diagnosis it’s also very difficult to recommend a fix. It sounds a bit like Plantar Fasciitis so you might want to try some of the usual remedies for that (basically massaging the sole of your foot with a tennis ball, golf ball or small bottle of frozen water as none of these will do any harm anyway).

There are a few guiding principles you could use though……

-sounds like your trainers have done a lot of work. Even if you’ve only being doing 20 miles a week for a year they’re well over the 1000 mile mark, where something more like 500 is ‘normal’ according to many sources before they need replacing

-any more long runs won’t really improve your marathon performance now with only 3 weeks to go, but attempting one might **** it up completely. I certainly wouldn’t risk it - would get your new shoes and do a few gentle runs in them to break them in and if poss get the injury looked at it

-16 miles is fine, people do marathons on a lot less. Get your fuelling and hydration more or less right and you’ll get round (although plan to feel quite crap at some point - probably miles 18-21 or thereabouts, which is also a pretty dull part of the course). If you need to walk a bit don’t feel bad about doing so, you’ll see plenty of others doing it.

Good luck

Thanks so much for the advice mate, really appreciate it. Managed to get through it, had a quiet week running-wise leading up to the event and ended up running it with a time of 4:10:17. My foot did flare up a little bit on about 11 miles or so but pushed through and it felt alright by a couple miles later, thankfully. Very sore afterwards and time to give it a rest now to heal up I think, but What an amazing day and event!

Not sure what this thread is doing on page 4, it's almost like we won today!

Can I get a table update, did parkrun this morning hoping that I have benefited from marathon training, set off too quick for the first mile but managed to hang on for 18:20 and a age grading of 73.91%

Well done. You certainly can get the update along with mine from today and Bad Ash 10k from last week. I'll do it Monday.

I was off to Hove Park today for the first time in 2 years but a slight hayfever stuffiness made me stick to the Prom. I decided to go sub 22 and found it relatively easy to do so. A 50 second SB in 21:48 and a 74.85% AG.

I think I'm finally ready to start track sessions at Withdean again next week.

Well done mate. Can sense you closing in on me.
Broadwater near Godalming for me today. Nice, scenic course but tricky with lots of turns and lumps and bumps.
Disappointed with 22.23 and 76% AG, although happier with 14/150 and 2nd best AG of the day. Thought I was in with a chance of an old goat course record but have to settle for 3rd.

After a 1st, a 2nd and a 17th my 65th place finish was a set back. 😆
Have an Arena mile trial at Withdean in 8 days time 6:15 to 6:30 should reflect my condition.
As to the summer your AG is too magnificent for me to chase even if I was in the form of my life.
Enjoy the blue skies!

After a few niggly injuries and other running disruptions, I had a faster than expected 6k this morning.:O

If I can get a few runs under my belt, I might just beat my January 2020 5k PB.

Right a bit of leap frogging for myself and Blue&WhiteSea in the table and a fine 10k by Bad Ash
I have guessed that Bad Ash is 41 and that his AG for the 10k 37:43 is 75.89% Could you let me know Bad Ash as the AG is from any 2022 race and not just Parkrun. It will leapfrog you up the table.
I just need Garry Nelson's teacher to tell me which Howard Grubb calculator I use as I've forgotten. 2010 version is near enough right.....

Now Brixton
3:00:18 Chip Time for me for the marathon (albeit 2:59 over the actual marathon distance...). Am both delighted and mildly irritated by it! Paced myself perfectly the whole way round at 4:15 per KM but stupidly didnt factor actually running 26.4miles. Oh well!

I did an 18:18 at the St Albans parkrun the saturday before too, for the table.

Trying to work out what race to enter next. I fancy a half around July/August.

I came the closest I ever have to Park Run-ing on Saturday.

By that I mean I just went out for a run on one of my regular loops and, turning to head east on Worthing seafront at Grand Avenue, I was confronted with a tidal wave of runners coming the other way.

What I assumed to be the leaders went by me after a while, and the bloke who was around 5th or 6th was charging along pushing a child in a pram/buggy thing. Very impressive!

Not much else to report from the world of non-racing running, although I should pass through 1,000 miles for the year later this week.

A magnificent marathon time by ForestRowSeagull so near but so far from the magical sub 3.
Jumps up the table with his 18:23 at St Albans Parkrun. The Gaffa spotted the 5 seconds reporting error when checking for the AG percentage.

I can confirm that I am 41. I was actually going to correct you as I keep thinking I’m 42 already, but that’s not until later this week! It must be a sign I’m well into the aging process now.

Excellent marathon from ForestRowSeagull, gutted for those 19 seconds!

OK edited you in front of Cool Ted. You'll need to take full advantage of your Birthday as I'll be gunning for your AG over the next few weeks. 🏃*♂️ 🏃*♂️

My slide down the table during Feb and March was similar to the Albion's. Thankfully they've turned things round but mine continues, it looks like the Gaffa will be next to glide past. No running for me for ten weeks (due to a knee problem), now it's the start of a long slog back.

Afternoon all

Is anyone running Worthing Half Marathon this Sunday?

I've just signed up as part of my training for Edinburgh Marathon in just under six weeks time. After 18 months out injured (mainly very stubborn plantar fasciitis) I'm feeling pretty strong and hoping to go under 4 hours for the marathon, which'll be a big improvement on my 04:34:24 at Beachy Head in 2019.
knocky1 I'd love to be on the chart if you can make space for me, not least because it'll be an extra incentive to get some PBs...
