Just trawled through my Strava activity back to 2016 where it says 863ft. Surprised by that thought it was more

Good idea. Just done the same and got similar ascent. That's reassuring. Also noticed that I did the flat mile 12 to 13 at 6:52 pace. Be very happy if I can repeat that! Nice steady easterly that day.

My Strava was out for the first time today (except swimming when always wrong). I went over Shoreham footbridge to Shoreham Beach and along coast footpath towards Worthing. Strava shows me running north through Shoreham, swimming over the Adur between the rail bridge and the footbridge near Old Shoreham Road, then running 90 degrees through fields till back on the caost path. I think I entered a time/space vortex. Did you run in land?

No very similar route to you. We couldn’t take any more of the coast path so headed north by the Lancing pub roundabout and then through the industrial estate (which smelled of eggs and burning) to Brooklands and then up.

Problems actually started on the way back. Having hit the coast path my mate started struggling with the relentless rain and we picked our way through the static caravans to get back on the road. Other than that it was Brighton Road / Old Shoreham Road.

The Strava there is a little weird, it seems to struggle with the bridges and paths

A 110 minute dash for me today, started after the Chelsea game because I had a feeling that the Merseyside derby would be atrocious. I rolled out of bed at midday, and one glance outside did nothing but upset me. When I went out it was pretty much dry, but hideously windy and having ruled out the seafront, I thought I'd smash into the Goldstone Valley. I really didn't need to pile into a lap of Hove Park to start with. Plenty of elevation and not really run at a quick enough pace to kill me, but I'm happy with it.

Morning all, thinking of doing 28k (17.5 ish miles) this evening in prep for Brighton/London combo. Previous longest was a HM last week at 5min Km pace. Was thinking of doing tonight’s run at 5min 20sec km pace. Too much too soon (distance), or about right for where I am at? Any thoughts very welcome!

Was thinking of doing tonight’s run at 5min 20sec km pace. Too much too soon (distance), or about right for where I am at? Any thoughts very welcome!

Not too soon if you feel fully recovered, but maybe a bit fast if it’s going to be your longest run so far. What’s your target marathon time ? Ideally aim to go at around a minute a mile (40s per km) slower than that.

Thanks Dazzer, my marathon goal is just to get under 4 hours. But I guess if I was to nail it down, 3:45 would be an ultimate aim (my previous best is 4:04, but i was a lot heavier then!). So maybe I'll aim for more like 5min 30s kms tonight, very happy to take it easier!

Actually re-reading your post maybe slower than that, or maybe my marathon goal is faster than I thought! I guess part of me thinks that I want to know what my marathon pace feels like, but will aim for around 5min 40s and see how that feels. Cheers for the advice.

Everyone's different but I'm on a training programme that should hopefully get me in between 3h 50 and 3h 59 as desparate to get sub 4 this time. My "steady" pace (Marathon race pace) should be around 8min 40 a mile. My training runs build up gradually with an easy start to warm up, a few miles a little quicker (only by about 20 secs a mile) before a long blast at target MP and two miles very easy at the end to cool down and bring down the heart rate again.

It's very specific to me though and I didn't manage to stick to it yesterday because of the weather. Any sort of head wind will see you needing to drop the pace off a lot more than that or you could blow later runs.

Don't take any of this as gospel but I can assure you that your MP to get round in 3,45 will need to be a constant 8min 35 a mile.

You'll be 4 minutes ahead of me at halfway on BM day at 8:40 plus your sprint start......

And blowing out of my backside at 20, crying at 30 and walking at 40 if I start the same way I did last time.

So we did our second park run Saturday and I managed to get 30 seconds off my previous weeks time and unlike last week I am not hobbling around like I had done a marathon when in fact it was only 5K Mrs Blue3 and I are away this coming weekend so intend trying out a park run elsewhere

Progress in 2019 continues, a SB parkrun on Saturday down to 22.01, 62.00% AG.

I decided to brave the seafront yesterday afternoon, miserable is the best I could describe it as, the 6 miles from Marina to Power Station particularly not fun!

A steady 18.5 miles in 2h 38. A few more long runs to go and then the joy of tapering...

Might be a handful of you this is of interest to - New Balance running club on Strava are offering three free pints if you do 13 miles in the next two weeks (have to sign up to the challenge via their club).

Trouble is, the three pints are only available at The Runaway on Charing Cross Road (a pop up New Balance pub), and only available on 10 and 17 March, and between 12-5pm. So if you're going to the Milwall game, and like running, and can get to Charing Cross Road for 12 on the 17th, and like smashing three pints in an hour before heading off for the match, you're welcome.

The beer mile turned out to be a lot of fun. I turned up at the "track" on Saturday evening to be greeted by two guys spraying orange paint on a field of snow. There was a track under there somewhere and one guy was trying to use his phone GPS to ensure he marked it out accurately :lolol:

Once we had the track marked out and two crates of (competition approved) beer had been deposited on the snow, we were ready to start proceedings. Heat 1 was for 2-person relay participants, Heat 2 was for solo runners. I was in the relay but my partner didn't turn up on time, so I ended up having to do the relay. It was a lot less messy than I thought it was going to be. I don't think anyone had to do a "victory lap" for chundering before the finish. It largely came down to how quickly you could down your beer along with how quickly you could unleash a huge burp to clear the gas when you started running!

My partner and I ended up claiming victory in the relay, after I absolutely gunned the last lap having been told the time I needed to beat. I think we came in 5 seconds ahead of the winning team from Heat 1. Definitely an entertaining experience and it was amusing to see the solo runners suddenly being absolutely smashed about 20 minutes after they finished.

Worthing 10K is a no for me [MENTION=616]Guinness Boy[/MENTION]. Find the suburban housing part too dull.

Yes indeed it was [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] , still get NSC names mixed up with real names!
I did Worthing PR Saturday, clocked in with 23.43 (again) to match my PB from last year, so close! I did however get a PB for the age-graded score of 62.19% as getting older!
Saturday I think I am going to do the South Norwood PR as not that far from Selhurst...........going without a shower post race will make it easier to blend in with the locals on the walk to the ground. Will try and find a cafe for breakfast post race before heading to the game. Might have to risk running in an Albion shirt :)
