Looking at races for next year and have taken advantage of the £17 Barns Green HM early bird offer. Looked at Worthing & Brighton which are two good half marathons two weeks apart and it will cost me £75 to enter both! That's a hell of a lot of money for 26.2 miles.

I may well still enter as I'll be gutted to miss one or both but prices seem to be spiralling massively for the bigger events. I suppose the organisers justify it, as they tend to sell out, so market forces dictate the price.

Anyone here considering one or both of these races? Hopefully Brighton measure the course properly this year!

I'm in for Brighton, but I don't really know why – other than I thought it was a good idea having seen lots of people do it last year and have race envy. As a race, I'm not a massive fan of it, to be honest, but it's all good marathon training, I guess. Done Worthing before and I liked it (partly because I got a HM PB), but I agree with Knocky – Hastings is the one – best road half I've done.

Able to do a bit of running at the moment. Last week 6,000 foot up and 6,000 foot down walking in Wales, Parkrun and an 8 mile run/walk effort to the Dyke on Sunday. Took 3 days of incessant eating and fluid intake to recover. Had a walk yesterday incorporating a full effort run up and over Truleigh Hill. Bevendean 22/10 here I come!

So tomorrow I need to see how close I am to June's SB. Will take the yellow racing flats to Hove Park and see what side of 22" I end up. See you there.

Hopefully I'll be on the 'right' side of 22 – could be a sprint finish at the end...

Gents! Bad news. I'm committed to going to Newcastle for the weekend of the 22nd October. Looks like I'll need to set a standard the week before and let you fellas ruin it the following week.

I'll try and make a parkrun up in the north that weekend instead. Looking at Hove Park tomorrow, probably not a PB attempt but I'll try and crack 19 minutes there for the first time.

Good I'll tell you my tactics. I'll start nearish the front and set off too quick so that I clear the masses and can run tightish on the first curve. Then I'll drop slightly, let you overtake me, follow you for a couple of miles and then take over when you're not going fast enough for me. That's the dream anyway..... Hope we both get a SB!

22:09 at Preston Park today. Still ten seconds slower than PB, but I seem to be getting older, so my AG has squeaked up a fraction to 73.66%. Maybe someone could change it when the master table is next being updated?

After a couple of near misses, I managed a new PB @ Worthing today [emoji16].

21.02 70.13%

(I'm not sure I've got much left in me, I think I might have peaked)

I'll have a go at updating the table when I'm next at the pc unless someone else wants to include this with the weekend updates.

Well played Left Back for a new PB and soistes for boosting the AG.

I hit a Hove Park PB this morning, 18:55 with the aid of a charge in the final mile which was very much needed. I was pleased to get under 19 minutes around Hove Park for the first time, it's incredible how much pace has been injected into Hove Park in the last two weeks. Sub 20 minutes was only enough for 31st this week and my sub 19 got me into 12th place. Remarkable times at the top end of the field for the last couple of weeks.

My mate Jerome found a 17:26 around Preston Park this morning in response to my recent efforts. He's not quite Capricorn speed but he's not far off. He's a Belgian fella who once beat Mo Farah over a 10k, by a few seconds a decade or so ago. He's got a bit of pedigree! Sadly, he's partial to Palace so I'm keen to put him back in his box - not looking likely at the moment! His next target is to go under an hour for the Bright10. Crazy pace and now I've got big nuts in my pocket, I'm after him.

Congrats to knocky1 for his SB this morning, I know he's keen to update the table so I'll leave it for him!

Some good running today. Looking forward to the revised table later. I skipped parkrun today as going to continue my comeback with the Sussex half marathon a week tomorrow and didn't fit into my plans.

Talking of the table was it ever decided what defined a season? Not sure how much longer I can dine out on my current sb. Is it the new year?

Decided to skip Park Run today after Barns Green last Sunday a ten miler Tuesday and 90 minutes of football Thursday. Managed 4.5 miles in 32 minutes so a decent run out in preparation for tomorrow's long run which will be a minimum of 10 miles.

I noticed the Bevendean course record got smashed by over a minute. I think the winning time was 16:30 which sounds highly impressive when many say you add two minutes to your time.

Bright 10 is my next race which I'm looking forward to. If Ninja Elephant is running this, I'll be keen to get out of his pocket for this one.

Yes the New Year. It will have to be a clean slate on all sb 5k times. Other distances seem to be pbs.
Good luck in the half.

I was lapped by a snail this morning.

The lungs got a bit of a blow out and the knee took a hammering but i got around with out walking that is my main goal until my lungs can give me a bit more.

Looking forward to hearing about the The Battle of Hove Park. 21:32 for me at Worthing. Not great but a category win and I've had a bit of a bug in the last few days - so just pleased to get out and run.

Good I'll tell you my tactics. I'll start nearish the front and set off too quick so that I clear the masses and can run tightish on the first curve. Well that went to plan. Let down by Greg Bobkin slowing at the halfway stage. His excuse was I'm waiting for Lucy, which is fair enough but he could have met her at the finish line.... Had to go without him and Lucy. All fine till the last 200m when my pace dropped 1/2 a minute a mile running in. 21:31 and a hefty 25 seconds knocked off the SB!

Revised table to follow with movement for me and changes for soistes and Left Back.

Does anyone know the latest on the Lancing parkrun? I still can't see it working, but often the routes are difficult to envisage beforehand.

I believe it's still going ahead with a couple of laps of the green to thin out the numbers before hitting the path.

Bloody Worthing!

Hope this goes ahead. It's a bit confusing (and I'm probably going to add to it) because there's already an organised 5K weekly run at Lancing on Sundays. This isn't run under the auspices of parkrun but looks something similar - i.e. a volunteer based, free local run but takes place within a national framework (Great Local Run). It looks very low-key and very worthy.. Maybe the parkrun will use the same route.

Talking of which I add another year to my tally at the end of October. My target for the first two parkruns in November is a sub 21:10 Parkrun. This will put me back in an AG silver medal position with 75+%.
Might as well aim for 21:00 and move up three league places as well. I'll need a pacer Left Back. Lancing or Worthing?
