I've realised I should probably be looking to get some new running shoes as I think I've done over 800km in my current ones and the heels are starting to look worn. My last two pairs have been Asics GT-2000s which I've been very happy was, and I was just going to order a pair of the new version. However, I saw these and wondered in anyone else uses specific tri shoes:-

http://www.sportsshoes.com/product/asi4273/asics-gel~noosa-tri-10-running-shoes-~-ss15/

They cost a little more but happy to pay is they are going to work well for the triathlons I've got planned this year (three Olympic distance, so probably enough to justify looking at the options!).
I liked at them too as I'm an asics cumulus man. I think they're designed for no socks and are pretty lightweight so maybe not an every day shoe.

Aren't GT 2000 for pronators? Are the noosa neutral?

They're both support shoes as I do over-pronate. I generally run without socks for tris, but not when training. Can't really afford two new pairs so should probably go and try them somewhere.

Thanks

My first 113 of the season tomorrow (Cotswold 113) and I'm hideously under prepared, I've done bugger all since the Brighton Marathon in April. I treated myself to a Di2 conversion on the TT bike, which was installed yesterday and today I should be taking delivery of a between the aero bars bottle. Nothing like testing a new setup during a race! :)

The di2 should be really nice for a TT bike, changers on the tri bars and horns have got to be a big plus.

Not sure I'll ever bring myself to have an aero bar bottle though!

Anyone else at Bleinheim today?

We were, in support of my wife doing her first one. The Sprint, wave 16, time of 1.46.

She's now asleep in front of the TV, and will be for some days i suspect..

Here you go, even though you're a bunch of freaks I heard this fella being interviewed by Danny Baker and thought of you:-

http://www.220triathlon.com/trainin...swim-stroke-can-benefit-triathletes/9286.html
I've seen that. There seem to be an awful lot of swimming systems (TI, ocean Walker, swim smooth) that will take a few hundred quid off you to revolutionise your swimming!

I'm trying to see where they overlap and concentrate on those things but I'm not getting any faster! I'm stuck at around 2:00 per 100m - flat out is 1:50 and really easy is 2:20.

Plus, I haven't managed to try swimming in open water/wetsuit yet.

It seems I might as well take it easy and be fresh on the bike!

I know how she feels. Thought I was going to die after running up the hill after the swim.

How did the half ironman go? How was the di2?

First open water swim in the wetsuit today. What a revelation, felt so much better than swimming in a pool - legs that aren't constantly sinking, nothing to break the rhythm and, although I can't tell how fast I was going, felt good through the water.

It is great, isn't it. I hate swimming in a pool now and certainly won't do triathlons with a pool swim.

Got Dambusters on Saturday on Rutland water. Forecast not looking good at all so hoping it will change. Haven't done a really wet triathlon, but can't think it is very nice doing the ride in the rain after coming out the lake...

Well, I suppose you're already soaking wet! Good luck. I have to say that I never minded the rain when I was racing, once you're wet, you're wet.

My first tri wasn't wet but it was only 7 degrees for the bike according to my garmin so that was a bit of a shock running out of an indoor pool!

I'll definitely try and get in the sea more often now as it was much more pleasant and saves paying a fiver to swim in a pool. I find the turns really break my rhythm and then there are too many bits of the stroke to try and concentrate on!

Should have got myself a garmin 920 so I have some idea how fast I'm moving!

I'm an average runner (half in 1hr45m) and an average swimmer (1,000m in 16m) but don't cycle at all. Is there a go to cheapo road bike? What should I be looking for?

1000m on 16m is definitely not average, that's pretty fast!

I'll bump this over to the cycling geeks thread for advice but what's the budget? These days there are great bikes at a £1000 and even some pretty solid ones at 500.

Have you got the cycle 2 work scheme with your employer, let's you buy pretax and save a bundle.

Swimming is my main form of exercise, road running doesn't really do anything for me. I have cycle2work but think I can only do it through shitty Halfords at certain times of the year. Budget closer to 500 really. I'd like to do a triathalon just for the sake of doing one, not sure I'd ever get super competitive at it.

This might help -

If it's only halfords then the boardman bikes are fantastic. Halfords are shit for any kind of knowledgeable staff or service but the boardman bikes are great.

I brought the Boardman sport as my commuting bike through the cycle 2 work scheme. For the price it's a decent bike and have not had any problems with it. A little unspectacular but for that money a decent solid ride. Has decent reviews in cycling magazines. I have not had to have much setup by Halfords but I did get the sense they did not really know what they were doing when getting it ready for me. For that price you can always go to a bike shop afterwards and get it set up properly for you.
