For Bears fans, the immediate reaction is going to be “only a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick and there’s a $24 million hit for this season!?” But at the end of the day, this was a good deal that had to be made by new general manager Ryan Poles, as it sets the Bears up to aggressively attack 2023 and beyond coming off a hopeful Justin Fields breakout campaign. As Over The Cap‘s Jason Fitzgerald noted, eating the $24 million dead money now opens up $6.15 million in 2022, $28.5 million in 2023 and $26.25 million in 2024 for Chicago.

Opening up future space and acquiring draft picks is how a rebuild works, and sometimes tough decisions like this one have to be made. From here on out this offseason, the Bears are going to aim toward building for the future.

I think Wilson was beginning to struggle after his injury.

Wilson came back at least 2, if not 3, weeks to early from the injury. He is already back to full speed. If it was an issue then he wouldn't have passed the Broncos physical.

He will make the Broncos immediate SB contenders - he has more offensive weapons, a better OL, a better defence - he doesn't have to play in an ultra-conservative, ultra-predictable, run-heavy Pete Carroll offence, and the Broncos have a coaching staff steeped in outside zone / WCO which play directly into Wilson's strengths. Wilson is a very smart guy and there is a reason that the only team that he wanted to be traded to was the Broncos.

It is only a matter of time before Brady breaks down - time catches up with everyone. If it happens during the season it will be ugly (remember Manning).

A few deals for running backs so far mostly (Edmonds to Miami, Conner back to Cards) along with a few cuts including the Browns letting Jarvis Landry go, but the biggest news in the first hour just broke. Trubisky to the Steelers on a two year deal. Can't see that ruling them out of taking a QB in the draft if someone they like falls to them, but this sort of move backs up the belief that most of the top QBs in this upcoming draft will need to sit for at least a year.

Whilst I'm not thrilled about the Trubisky signing there is a few positives. He's far better than Rudolph and Haskins, and we gave up no capital to get him. Definitely one eye on the draft still, if Willis falls to us at #20 overall this year. If not, Stroud / Young in 2023.

Seems nailed on that of all their pending free agents, Gronk re-signs with them. Wouldn't be shocked if Fournette returns too.

Was going to say I imagine TB will be pushing hard for them to bring Jensen back at center, but just seen an overnight tweet from Schefter that they've given him a 3 year extension. Last minute heartbreak for all the fanbases dreaming of going after him in free agency.

Can see them either signing a guard to replace Marpet or draft one early. Keeping that o-line strong has been so key to how well Brady has played the last two years. With Godwin back on the franchise tag again it's hard to see them taking a step back on offence, unless Brady's play completely falls off a cliff.

Think it’s a good draft for offensive lineman.

Got to applaud him for letting that video of Ronaldo asking him if he was coming back to surface. The man knows how to play us all like a fiddle. Times it perfectly to sway some of the Bucs' pending free agents to run it back for one more year. Might even convince Ali Marpet to un-retire as well!

Well - there is always one - and in this case its Rosenthal.

In Week 5 against the Rams, Wilson suffered a tendon rupture, a dislocation and multiple fractures on his throwing hand. The recovery period for these injuries is a minimum 6-8 weeks - he missed three games and was back after 5 weeks. His hand had not healed properly and he struggled for several weeks. Wilson later admitted that he wasn't ready and that it was only for the last three games of the season that he was 100%. And despite the injury he really only had two bad games - the first game back against the Packers and then against the Rams. If you exclude those two he was 132-204 for 1600yds with 15TDs and 2 INTs - including those two games he was 171-275 for 1917yds with 15TD and 5INTs. Seattle went 4-5 in that period.

Over the same number of games the Broncos QBs went 188-295 for 2025yds with 8TDs and 3INTs - the Broncos also went 4-5 - but do you see the important difference ? At a minimum the Broncos would have won two extra games in that stretch with Wilson at QB.

Over the season in 14 games Wilson went 259-400 for 3113 with 25TDs and 6INTs - Bridgewater and Lock over 17 games went 354-541 for 3593 with 20TDs and 9INTs - and that was with a fourth place schedule (the Seahawks won the NFCW in 2020).

If the Broncos had Wilson at QB last season (even with his injuries) they were likely a 11-6 team (they would probably have beaten the Raiders twice, the Browns and the Bengals and could also have beaten the Steelers) - and could have won the division and been vying for the No.2 seed in the AFC.

Will be interesting to see if Wilson can raise his game to the levels it has been when he has been surrounded by elite players.

You are spot on that Wilson is very self aware and has selected Denver as he has the necessary tools he requires to be a game changing QB.

Just the question now to see if he can step up to the levels he was before after several years of being part of a bang average team and with plenty of off the field distractions.

Very hypothetical in terms of the Broncos.

The question isn’t whether he’ll improve the Broncos, he is highly likely to, more whether as a player he has ‘lost a step’ and is at the level he was previously, and although there may be an improvement, how big it will be.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see…..

Question - do you think he’ll have the same level of impact as Stafford?

Despite my reservations, I’d still rather have Wilson and even Bridgewater at the Giants than Jones.

Uzomah to the Jets after a decent year in Cincy - & Im very surprised to see Dallas lose Cedric Wilson. They must be planning to draft a WR as Lamb is currently the only legit receiver left (with Cooper having gone to Cleveland) while also hoping Gallup recovers fully from his ACL injury as they've just given him a big contract extension too.

Love this part of the off season when all the moves start happening!

Still unsure about the decision to let Edmonds go and keep Conner. Felt like Chase was a more dynamic and capable back compared to Conner who seems more of a battering ram. If memory serves, Eno Benjamin has a similar style to Chase Edmonds so maybe they're relying on him to step into that role. Definitely need a pass catching RB though, so whoever becomes RB1, they better have glue on their gloves this year.

Wouldn't be opposed to having Jarvis in AZ but can't see it happening. Maybe Andy Isabella will finally step up. Can't rely solely on DHop, Ertz and Rondale Moore.
