Agreed, but in the 'golden' generations of those days were a mere media invention. Objective eyes will see it differently now. These youngsters are very talented. I've not seen an English team with this amount of pace and attacking instinct before. They will qualify comfortably for the European Championships, and from there I think there is genuinely hope for our national set up. And I'm not naturally an optimist where England are concerned.

Sterling played very well, we are in transition which has been caused by having two foreign managers.

It will get better over time.

Oh and that's all folks from me with regards to starting England official match threads

:lolol::lolol::lolol:

Perhaps if there had been decent domestic choices then the FA wouldn't have turned to SGE and FC.

There is a nucleus within this team that suggests that, given the right nurturing, we could eventually produce a genuinely world class side. The squad has an attacking philosophy that has been missing over the years, and lots of raw talent, and pace, in the youngsters.

At the back, given this approach, we need to be tighter. Tonight we looked very vulnerable and were punished for it.

That said, I'm genuinely sad for the team. The attitude is right, but we can't expect great things now-not yet.

Agree with this 100%, Shaw will come into the team sooner rather than later and Walker will replace Johnson, I'm really positive about tonight for the first time in 14 years. Hopefully a new English holding midfielder will appear in the Premiership next season. Regardless of what happens in the next week I hope Roy stays till the next Euros.

Why take an impact sub in Lambert, and then bring on two midfielders when you are looking for a goal with ten minutes to go?it kin baffles me why Rooney is rated so highly by all the pro's, he is absolute f*****g shite for the majority of most England games

Yeah I know that's the balanced view but it's always us being the talk the talk but not walk the walk.

Problem is that the likes of Gerrard can't resist chucking the long pass in and as a consequence, on too many times we gave the ball away and ended chasing it for 5 minutes.

I think it has been reported that he will keep the job regardless. Looking at the side as it is, it becomes apparent that they have a lot of trust in his experience-and rightly so.

Reasonable performance and still back us to get through.

The main positive for me is that Sterling, Sturridge and Welbeck are a very pacey and exciting attacking threat and with the Ox and Barkley added to the mix, we will score goals.

The main negatives are Rooney, good player in his own right but doesn't fit into this team anymore, and our two full backs who look massively out of their depth. I also don't want Wilshere anywhere near the side.

Very impressed with Italy and in particular Pirlo again. Like Iniesta of Spain, I would pay to watch him play all day, he's a genius.

Same old shit then. Play ok but can't find a way to win.

Pirlo is just class. England can only dream of having a player even half as good as him.

Michael Owen disagrees with you:
