I thought it was incredible that a 16 year old had the mental strength to stay in it. Even when he was pegged - back to 4 - 4 he was still well in it. Showed fabulous character and lost to pretty fine margins, really.
It was a fabulous final. Love Littler and his attacking brand of darts, it's scary to think what he will become, Darts players can play well into their 50's so he's got as much as 40 years of top darts in him and with such a smooth, easy on the eye action if he can keep his head together he will win many multiple world titles. It's not my sport/pastime, and that's the first time I've watched a darts match since my stepfather used to play for the old Sussex Pad team back in the early 70s.
But it was actually quite exciting. Way better than tennis.
The Ally Pally has become the mecca for darts over the past yearsI see the tournament was held at Ally Pally. Years ago, back in the 80s (the last time darts was big) it used to be held in a place called the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green Surrey. I had a friend whose house backed onto the club grounds, and all the residents used to get free passes and free guest admission to the club as compensation for the fact that the local residential roads used to get absolutely rammed with cars at competition time.
The very much lesser WDF (was held by the BDO when the PDC broke away) still have their ‘world championship‘ at Frimley Green every year. Final was on December 10th - didn’t see any coverage anywhere. Winner got £50k vs the £500k last night.I see the tournament was held at Ally Pally. Yeah, having paid absolutely no interest to darts I found myself googling it a bit this morning, specifically I wanted to see when the final had switched from Frimley to Ally Pally. Imagine my surprise when I found out that darts is a (little) bit like Boxing inasmuch as there isn't one official body. Ok only two and not four, and one is significantly bigger, but I didn't realise there had been a split. And yes as you say there is still a 'world championship' at Frimley! The very much lesser WDF (was held by the BDO when the PDC broke away) still have their ‘world championship‘ at Frimley Green every year. How the hell has Peter Wright kept his place the form he's been in. Chris Dobey deserves to be in there ahead of him. It's been announced he's in The Premier League for 2024. After viewing figures of 4.8m on Sky for the final last night it's not surprising.
At it again tonight in the PL final.... and Luke the nuke did this again!

Wow. Lucky you. Watching the crowd as he sinks double 12 on the 9 darter. It looks like a footie goal.I was there tonight. All I can say is wow. What a moment. I celebrated that like a last minute winner.
Watching Littler win his first “major” title will be a “I was there” moment. Seeing a 9 darter live was a bucket list experience ticked off. Doing both in one night… special.
Ludicrous beer prices I heard?I was there tonight. All I can say is wow. What a moment. I celebrated that like a last minute winner.
