Listen pal, I'm not a wind up merchant. I just happen to think there's more to football than what Coentrao was doing. If you want to talk about decent left backs, let's have words about Phillip Lahm of Germany, or Gael Clichy of the French. Jordi Alba re-wrote the book on how to play left back last night, even Ashley Cole was sitting up thinking "that's why I do, only better".

Good spot, sweetheart. If only we could all be as insightful as you.

Forwards - Balotelli, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Silva

Top goalscorers (Assists in brackets):
Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal 3
Mandžukić Croatia 3
Dzagoev Russia 3
Balotelli Italy 3
Gómez, Mario Germany 3 (1)
Torres Spain 3 (1)

Silva 2 (3)
Ibrahimovic 2
Fabregas 2 (1)

Who is Ibrahimovic shagging then? Thought he was average

Think it's more or less spot on, the only debatable one for me is Ibra but then he scored probably the goal of the tournament.

Mandžukić and Dzagoev are both unlucky to miss out - both stood out as really good players in fairly average teams.

Torres is amusing. Must surely be the first time in any major tournament, that the Golden Boot winner hasn't made the 23 man squad of the tournament?

I though Ibra was good in all 3 Sweden matches without any real support, whereas Ronaldo and Balotelli had two good games each

Harsh on Dzagoev, if Russia had made it to the QF's i'm sure he would have made it in. Think Khedira can count himself quite lucky to be honest, great goal against Greece but didn't think he had a particularly great tournament.

Gerrard deserves his place, 3 assists in a pretty average team is decent.

And how many matches did the golden boot winner actually start? I think he only started two games! (Ireland and Croatia)

2 left backs in there and neither are Ashley Cole.

Do people still think he is the BEST in the world?
Clearly, this has shown that he's not. Still a decent player though, and he remains one of our top performers.

I guess you could say the same sort of thing about Joe Hart.

To be fair Casillas, Buffon and Neuer you could have picked at the start. Given more time and a growing reputation Hart will be up there. Did Neuer have a much better tournament than Joe? I don't think so. It's easy to be down about England players but Joe Hart really is a saving grace for us. Him and Jack Wilshere are probably gonna have to carry the side for a while.

Its precisely BECAUSE he didn't play much, that he got the award - 6 players on 3 goals, but he was awarded it as he played the FEWEST minutes (despite two of the others playing for sides that played THREE LESS MATCHES!)

I don't disagree with you at all. Hart was no worse than most keepers at all really. I'm sure you could make a case for him in this squad, but the same could be said for Neuer, who basically won them the game against Portugal.

I'm not down on the better England players at all. As a team, they played as well as we could have hoped and we had one or two players who performed better than I thought - John Terry in particular. (if only he could pass and look comfortable under pressure...)

I think the unlucky one is Abate of Italy. He had a great tournament at right-back, getting forward regularly for Italy.

Iniesta winning player of the tournament is a bit off, I don't really recall him standing out. Andrea Pirlo carried Italy into the final, he would have been a better shout. And he's a big enough name to have a chance of winning it as well. I thought the tournament was outstanding for the team performances rather than the individuals though to be fair, and it's hard to argue with any of the players picked in the ultimate squad.

Ashley Cole over Coentrao, maybe. But he was a lot more noticeable and I thought he looked quite good.

That Coentrao was outstanding, I thought.

He was, 2 players who I think could have big futures even though they were in unfashionable teams were Pilar of the Czech republic and Konoplyanka of Ukraine. both exciting young prospects, really though they showed a lot of potential

Gerrard def deserves a place in there based on his performances at the tourno. I'd have had Cole and Hart in there myself from our players.

head and shoulders in a poor team.

Are you saying he had a better tournament than Torres, Dzagoev or Mandzukic?
