Pompey in the FA Cup 1993? That was packed on the North stand that day. God knows how many were REALLY in the ground that day...

17,581 v Portsmouth, FA Cup R3, 2 Jan 1993. Well done Westy.

Last time we had over 20,000 - as I hope we will on Saturday - was 26,467 v Arsenal, FA Cup R3, 30 Jan 1988.

Last time we had over 20,000 in the league was 20,874 v Chelsea, Div 2, 3 Sep 1983. If it beats that figure then it will be the highest home league crowd since 25,030 v Liverpool, 22 Mar 1983.

Saturday's 17,000 attendance - yes, I know it sounds dodgy - will have been the biggest for a non-competitive home match ever, beating the 15,768 v an All Star XI on 13 Nov 1967 for the benefit of Jack Bertolini and Cyril Hodges.

.

Was that the 1-3 at half time, final score we drew 3-3? Pouring rain, no roof on the North Stand.

I have an awful memory, astonishingly abysmal and struggle to put experiences, scores, players etc to matches however.....

This, for me, ranks as one of the most memorable games I've ever seen.

Today's Argus says Saturday's attendance was 16,608.

Pompey in Jan 93 was 17,581.
Not as great a draw as Crawley January 1992 @ 18,031
Arsenal in Jan 1988 26,647 (probably the biggest away allocation at the Goldstone)

Last League game

Portsmouth 16,640 1985-1986
Leeds United 17,279 1984-85
Chelsea 20,874 1983-84 (This was our first League meeting against Chelsea, the Londoners being a lower division for the previous four seasons)
(We finished ninth that season and we were NOT happy despite being above Pompey and Palace)
Liverpool 25,030 1982-83
Last big League crowd:
Charlton 30,859 1979-80
