6th in Division Two, below Glamoran and Northants. Back to the Good Old Days...

That equates to 14th in the overall County Championship, right back where we belong, it's like Adams, Mushy and Goodwin were all just a dream ?

So, by virtue of the 12 point lead Essex had over Somerset going into the final game, rain is the winner ? Could there not have been an extra day option ? Waste of time that the Championship is decided like this after all the results when the weather was fine.

Because of all the one day stuff the CC gets pushed deeper and deeper in to Autumn. In order to have a hope of promotion out of Div 2 we have to get good results in the first half of the season, improbable expecting to pick points up other than draws.

In the mid-70s, there was a season where Hampshire was well ahead with two matches to go but both their last matches were rain-affected while the team behind them - Worcestershire - won both their games and pipped them (in those days, there were no points for a draw).

I always remember that but have been particularly gutting and then thought, it's Hampshire; tough
