'Offensive' baby teeshirts.

From t'Argus:

A SHOPKEEPER has been threatened with arrest for displaying a toddler's T-shirt with the word "sperm" on it.

Officers told Tim Price the garment - which bore the slogan "Winner of the egg and sperm race" - was offensive and would have to be removed from his window display.

But the force was last night accused of being heavy-handed after it emerged shops all over Brighton displaying T-shirts and other items with potentially offensive slogans had not had action taken against them.

Tim, 45, said: "Is sperm a swear word? We're a bit confused about what's offensive.

"It is just a bit of fun, cheeky fun. We aren't going out to try to offend anyone.

"It was for a laugh and that was the point and we thought Brighton people were up for this kind of thing."

The T-shirts bear legends "mother sucker", "granny magnet", "I had my mum in stitches" and "I got more presents than Jesus".

Tim, who has worked in advertising, had the idea of creating baby T-shirts with cheeky slogans two years ago.

The £10 tops have developed a cult following among parents in their 30s who preferred them to more conventional designs.

Tim said: "I thought it would be a good idea to bring out a range of T-shirts for babies that appealed to parents who had grown up with punk, Monty Python and The Young Ones."

A police spokeswoman said: "An officer has spoken to the staff at Ju-Ju and advised them to display some of the more controversial items within the store or cover offending words in order to prevent further complaints."

A survey by The Argus of nearby shop windows revealed a plethora of "offensive" goods.

In Cranbourne Street, a shop displayed a card detailing the pleasures of being spanked.

A shop in The Lanes displays an array of badges with rude messages, including "I'm not a whore, I'm just popular".

Edited to get rid of boring bits.

They should be aiming their wrath at a certainly large supermarket chain that sells t-shirts aimed at pre-teenage girls with slogans such as 'Sexy Babe'. Not from the same supermarket, but an eight year old girl at my daughter's school wears kids t-shirts with the Playboy bunny logo.

Good point Cheeky. I saw that item in the Argus this morning and I reckon the officers concerned work for Inspector Short, the silly cow that wants Roz prosecuted.

It gets said a lot but in this case I think its fair to say that shouldn't they be trying to catch real criminals ?

Maybe the same officer that complained to the Argus recently that police didn't wear their hats enough??

Because hats are very practical when you're running after someone, or trying to break up a fight...

FYI, bhaexpress, it's not the police that are considering prosecution of Roz, but the Crown Prosecution Service.

If I was given the complaint against Roz to investigate, I'd feel it was a ridiculously frivolous claim, regardless of my Albion loyalties, and I can't say I'd be very pleased to have to deal with it.

But the police are obliged to investigate complaints, they then get passed on to the CPS for a decision on prosecution (principally whether there's a realistic prospect of a conviction). So if you want to moan, do it at them!

And don't even get me started on "catching real criminals". You have absolutely no idea...

As you asked ! Well, My step daughter started her autumn term at high school. Mrs BHA went to Walmart the night before to get her some 'school clothes' (they don't wear uniforms in that part of Georgia).

Now bearing in mind that the climate there is rather warm and humid they tend to wear fairly skimpy clothes. My step daughter goes off to school with a blouse that displayed every bit if two millimetres of plunging cleaveage, frankly barely noticable and compared with what some of the teachers there wore, positively puritan.

Anyway, the principle (who was so crap he eventually got demoted such were the number of complaints from parents) decided that the blouse was too revealing ! So we go a call from the school to take her another top.

Whilst she was here Mrs BHA saw the FCUK stuff and thought it was really funny. You can actually get it over there but not in a Georgia backwater. Anyway I had taken a fair bit of that stuff over much to the amusement of people there. Anyway, for a laugh I grabbed an FCUK top to take for her to wear. We got to the school and gave her the shirt without the principle seeing what was on it. Amber, my step daughter knew what was on it and started to snigger. Mrs BHA and I managed a straight face. Step daughter duly goes off and changes. She comes back with 'FCUK forever' emblazoned across her not too prolific cheast. The principle started to splutter and and his eye's bulged !

Up shot of it was he said the top was unsuitable because of 'What it implied'. Mrs BHA none too politely pointed out that French Connection United Kingdom was a well know designer range both in the UK and the US. He still wouldn't budge.

At this point I said to him (he looked like he'd been slapped when he heard my accent) 'What is the problem ? Are your teachers dyslexic or something ?'

Needless to say all three of us went home soon after laughing our heads off. Made us a bit of a legend for a couple of weeks at the school.

I guess you had to be there but I thought it was funny.
