Went there a few years back for a long weekend with a mate who's boss had paid for flights and accomodation for a very big favour we had done for him, worked long hours setting up a new factory to meet deadline, with no pay.
Ran out of money after the second day and had to spend the rest of the time drinking water and eating crisps by the rooftop pool.
On an earlier excursion and being a bit the worse for wear, we found ourselves in an area of flash cars and hotels, casinos, etc.
There were beautiful ladies hanging around the expensive cars, waiting for the owners to turn up to do a bit of trade me thinks.
Just out of interest I asked one what the 'rates' were, just curious you see.
Even if we pooled all our finances we couldn't even afford a sniff!:nono:
So carried on drinking instead.
One thing I did notice was that the young ladies and girls were so scruffy and looked awful, but the 40+ made a big effort and looked stunning.
Take plenty of money, twice what you think you might need.

Whilst I wouldn't disagree with much of what has been said. I think the beach at Nice is pants. Who thought it would be a good idea to put 6 lanes of traffic on the seafront ? Then great stretches of the beach are private for the hotels opposite.

In two words "No thanks". Expected miles of sand and all we got was Brighton beach with even more people!:glare:

That's one part of one beach. There's loads of good beaches around the area, many of the best are private and you have to pay.

Despite the cheap flights. The south of France is definitely NOT cheap. You will need to spend a fair whack to get a half decent hotel and decent food is expensive as well. Despite all this, that part of the world is my favourite.

Check out St Tropez preferably by boat as the traffic coming in by car is heavy. Cannes and Mougins are nice too. Avoid Juan Les Pins.

best restaurant in nice is La petite maison (although the mayfair branch is better)

Went two years ago, spent some time in Monaco, a good train ride, and some time on the beach ... great place.
