You fool [emoji6] I’m setting my sights on a Messi 2. And I’ll give this expert advice to the recruitment team free of charge. Just find a Messi 2 or a Shearer 2. As the kids would say, “simples”.

Aiming high. I like it.

Yes, exactly. If finding and signing great strikers at bargain prices was as simple as some people on here seems to think, then every club would score 100 goals a season. Edouard doesn't look worth the money and although Nunez is probably better, is he good enough for us to risk £35m+ on him? That could be a complete waste of the majority of the cash we'll be getting for White, who proved his worth in the Premier League.

We know Maupay is capable of double figures in league goals because we've seen him do it. But there's no evidence that anyone who has been mentioned is.

Then we struggle again . No ambition. Unlike Tony.

1. We don’t have seven strikers IMHO. Tau and Zeq are forwards, not strikers.
2. Locadia must be binned off. I agree.
3. That leaves Welbs (the only striker we have who is Prem quality IMHO, but always injured), Maupay (lost form last season, but may just about be good enough), Andone (recovering from a horrible injury, a red card in waiting, and may just reach Maupay standard), and Connolly (needs a loan out, I agree).

So, in conclusion, we must sign a striker.

I would never claim to know more than our recruitment army; never have, never will. But I am entitled to my opinion, that they have failed to land a Muzza replacement that we so obviously need if we are going to achieve Tony’s publicly stated goal (top 10).

Suck it up you melt. Bye.

Think it's fair to say there's plenty of evidence of the recruitment team attempting to sign forwards over the last few years. We've had some terrible luck with targets failing medicals, and we've had some attempted signings go the wrong way when faced with competition. We signed Maupay, who at the time looked like a decent bet but just hasn't hit his potential consistently enough. We signed Welbs, who when he was fit second half of last season helped get us over the line. We've signed attacking mids who could have been expected to score some of the missing goals but simply haven't done consistently (Trossard, Ali J, Izquierdo (injury), Macallister, Tau, etc). We've promoted Connolly who was scoring heavily a level down but has failed to fire in the Prem.

So: plenty of evidence IMO that the recruitment team know we need reinforcing in attack.

The problem everyone here on NSC has with you is your constantly bringing it up in every single transfer thread, regardless of who the target might be or what position they play. Yes - we all know (as does recruitment team) that we need goal-scoring attackers up front. There's a gap to be filled. But - and it's a big but - that doesn't mean we should stand still elsewhere when it comes to recruitment. Recruiting strikers is the most difficult area, and if we're unable (for whatever reason) to fill that gap then we need to be reinforcing the rest of the team to compensate at least a little. Hence Mwepu, and hopefully Cucurella, and others who've been linked.

Well researched, but still wrong. The expression is definitely to pick holes in something, not to poke holes. It's a bit like confirming it's ok to leave a g off a word because Alex Scott does it. It's still wrong.:)

 there’s no similarity between the two things, one is grammatically wrong, the other is a perfectly valid but different turn of phrase which you don’t like.

Not seen it used on NSC, but this would be a prime opportunity to call ELMO* on the grammar chat in this thread. Shall we get back to Edouard?

So annoying this thread was chosen for nonsense - if there’s no fresh reports / news from bigger journos, we should let the thread slide - I keep thinking there’s news ye it’s just bollocks postings!

The Daily Record just won’t give up on this story, despite what Naylor & Owen put out. Here is today’s update:

“And now they are hoping there’s more to come to give Ange Postecoglou his best chance of succeeding in the Hoops hot-seat.

Aurelio Buta is next on the list to come in, while Brighton will continue to push for a deal for Odsonne Edouard.”

A lot of smoke considering Naylor/Owen loyalists believe there is no fire.

I’m still waiting for his move to Leicester or Palace or Inter Milan or Arsenal given that the Record have reported that all were likely / fees agreed/ “solid approach” / deal “pushed for” etc this summer.

Would they be the 'bigger journos' who all predicted the Ings to Villa deal? Yes, let's hear from them. All, er, none of them.

Absolutely correct. But at least it keeps the thread on topic or gives some hope / identifies the crap ones for other rumours.

“A Brighton source has told Football Insider that talks are underway between both clubs and Edouard’s representatives.

Celtic are likely to have to accept less than £20million for Edouard, who is out of contract next year.”

We need this one in early as we’re going to have to wait until sometime in September for Núñez to be fit. [emoji39]

With the likes of Villa & Southampton securing their star strikers, it’s time for us to push this one through.

I thought Southampton had just lost their star striker.

If it wasn't for his alleged £100K plus a week wages, Ings would have been a far better bet than Edouard for £25M, even though there would have been little sell on value for that £25M. With our Xg he'd have been happy as a pig in muck, scoring for fun! Edouard has played at the same level - and rather lower most weeks - as Maupay had before coming here, so the likelihood that he'll be any better is just wishful thinking. Another stroker who might get us nearly ten goals in a good season is not what we need - we've got enough of those already.

I don’t disagree with any of that.

Some counters:
1. There are still plenty of idiots who don’t see the need for a striker signing. Swanny and co.
2 . The club’s recruitment army have had more than 2 seasons to replace Muzza and they have not managed it. Yes, it is obviously difficult. But there are too many apologists for their significant and only failure.

In the process of getting another one (Armstrong). This is good for Newcastle as the sell-on clause they’ll get will fund their transfers for the summer.
40% of £15-£20M is nice, but it isn't going to finance Newcastle's summer spending needs.
