One example - and this generally only comes to light when there is a dispute - http://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-city-demanding-payment-transfer-refuse-renegotiate-terms/

Sometimes clubs will negotiate a reduction in the fee to pay off the remaining stage payments sooner - sometimes they will agree to pay extra in order to reduce the size of the payments due - sometimes a club will accept a renegotiation out of the knowledge that the other club could go bankrupt and they will get little or nothing. It is normal business practice - and, after all, football is a business.

So a story about Man City not willing to renegotiate is your example to support your assertion that many fees are renegotiated!!!!

I'm pretty certain that that is a rare occurrence in the England.

Its just the Daily Record article summed up in a tweet as they have the same author.

Says (and includes info on Ben White that I hadn’t seen anywhere else)

Odsonne Edouard transfer offer revealed as Celtic weigh up Brighton bid
The Premier League club have submitted a bid for the France Under-21 striker who is in the last year of his contract.

Celtic have been offered a guaranteed transfer fee of £18.5million for Odsonne Edouard by Brighton and Hove Albion that could break through the £20m mark.

The English Premier League club have included a series of conditional payments in their proposal for the France under-21 international.

The Daily Record understands Brighton have proposed performance-related bonuses worth a total of £3.5m. Their offer also entitles Celtic to a variable sell-on clause worth between five and 15 per cent of Edouard's next transfer should Brighton receive a fee of £30m or more for the forward.

Bolstered by income from the club-record sale of Ben White to Arsenal, Brighton believe they are now well placed to secure a deal for Edouard ahead of domestic competition. Importantly, the south-coast club is in a position to offer the Frenchman the platform of a guaranteed starting place in a Premier League attack.

Edouard was signed from Paris Saint-Germain in June 2018 in what the club described as “the biggest transfer in Celtic’s history”. With just a single season remaining on the 23-year-old's current contract, Parkhead powerbrokers will reluctantly let the free-scoring striker leave in order to avoid losing him without fee next summer. It is understood PSG are entitled to 40 per cent of Celtic's income from a move.

Brighton agreed to sell White to Arsenal for an initial £50m in the aftermath of the European Championship. The England defender began a multi-day medical with the London club on Tuesday ahead of completing a transfer that includes a further £5.5m of performance-related variables and a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

The Daily Record report is pretty authoritative and they are generally quite close to the club. Interesting detail on the Ben White deal too.

should have gone in for Daka. Edouard is not that. Milik would have been ace for football trying to play.

I'm starting to think this might be on. Owen and Naylor will have egg on face if so.

They won't have any egg on face.

They will simply have been sold up the river by their club source.

It would crush their credibility somewhat.

I listened to the Duncan Castles podcast via his Twitter account. He seems to have quite detailed knowledge of the club’s proposal to Celtic and an interesting take on why we’re in the driving seat (I.e cash buyer and likely to be a regular starter).

Would you rather have egg on face or crushed credibility?

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a Duncan Castles claim actually happen. That’s not to say he’s never right, but from what I’ve seen his track record isn’t great.

That’s an awful lot of detail for a made-up BS story.

Constant calls and SMSs from Naylor & Owen to Barber but I doubt he’d even spill half a bean until this one is in the landing net.
